I rolled my eyes internally. To Vincent Roscente, I was just another disposable plaything—something to be used and discarded.
A monster like him belonged in the deepest pits of hell.
I was mentally cursing his entire lineage when Vincent suddenly threw open the door, ready to scream at his guards—only to freeze as the cold steel of a gun barrel pressed against his forehead.
The second that weapon touched his skin, the mighty drug lord crumbled. His bravado evaporated, leaving behind nothing but a sniveling coward, trembling like a cornered rat.
From the bed, I could see the gun pressed to his head, but the person holding it was still hidden in shadow.
My pulse pounded—half hope, half terror.
Part of me thrilled at the sight of Vincent finally getting his comeuppance.
The other part was paralyzed with fear. What happens to me after he's dead?
Just as panic threatened to swallow me whole, a familiar silhouette stepped into the light.
"Ethan!" Tears blurred my vision as relief crashed over me. "I knew you'd come back! How did you get out?"
Before he could answer, four heavily armed soldiers stormed in, slamming Vincent face-first into the ground and cuffing him.
Ethan lowered his weapon and rushed to me, fingers working quickly to loosen the ropes. His voice was tight with urgency. "The takedown was already planned. We just needed proof. We never expected Vincent Roscente to be the one pulling the strings."
"When your bounty hit the Dark Web, it triggered alarms. Command decided to use you as bait to draw him out. Sophia... I hope you can forgive me."
The second my hands were free, I hurled myself at him, pounding my fists against his chest between sobs.
For the first time, I understood what real safety felt like. With Ethan and his team here, even the most feared drug lord in Mandalay was powerless.
"You bastard! Do you have any idea what I went through? Gregory and Margaret locked me in a basement! Some brute named Batu Khan nearly—" My voice broke.
"And since when are you undercover? Weren't you discharged? Why didn't you tell me?"
Ethan cupped my face, wiping away tears with his thumb. "I never left. I went Special Forces. This operation took months to set up."
He exhaled sharply. "This isn't just about drugs. They're running a scam ring, targeting people back home. Families have been destroyed because of them."
Vincent Roscente's empire fell in a single night.
Dozens of black helicopters descended on his compound, rounding up every last trafficker and fraudster.
A week later, I stood in court, staring straight at Vincent as I testified.
I listed his crimes—not just for myself, but for every girl too afraid to speak. They'd never get justice. The world would judge them long before it judged him.
But I wasn't afraid anymore.
