They were walking side by side toward her. When Benjamin saw her, his expression darkened.
Stella fearfully hid the baby behind her back.
"Please, Olivia, I'm begging you—stop hurting my baby! If you're unhappy, I'll leave with my child right away. You're a mother too—you should understand a mother's heart. I don't want my daughter to be hurt again. For my daughter's sake, I'll do anything!"
Watching her terrible acting, Olivia just felt sick.
What kind of mother would throw her own flesh and blood on the floor just to frame someone else?
And this was the woman Benjamin had fallen for?
Olivia laughed bitterly. "Benjamin, you believe what she says?"
Benjamin grabbed Olivia's wrist angrily. "Enough! How long are you going to keep this up? When did you become so cruel? She's just a tiny baby, and you tried to kill her?"
Olivia stared calmly at the man before her. When had she become such a heartless person in his eyes? She was someone who couldn't even bear to kill a fish.
"What are you doing following us to the hospital? Trying to hurt the baby again? Olivia, if not for me, at least think about the child in your womb. Aren't you afraid of karma for doing something like this? I know you don't want a divorce, but you agreed to it! Once you agree, you can't go back on your word!"
Olivia was exhausted. She explained one last time: "I didn't follow you to the hospital. I was bleeding, so I came to get checked."
"Don't use the baby as an excuse!"
Benjamin didn't believe her at all. He put his arm around Stella's shoulders and looked at Olivia with disappointment. "You'd better reflect on your actions. If you can't admit your mistake, I don't think we need to remarry!"
"Stella's baby was seriously injured from your attack and needs to stay under observation for a few days. If you realize your mistake, come to the hospital room to help care for the baby and apologize to Stella. Otherwise, I won't remarry you."
With that, he walked past her with Stella.
After just a few steps, Olivia's phone rang.
"My darling daughter, are your immigration papers ready? When will you come see Mom?"
Olivia nodded. "The paperwork is done, and I've signed the divorce agreement. I'll be there soon."
Benjamin stopped and turned to look at her.
"What paperwork? Where are you going?!"
"I'm telling you, if you don't apologize to Stella, you're not going anywhere."
Olivia found it amusing. "What if I really leave?"
"Then go ahead. You really think I can't live without you? Remember this, Olivia—I won't forgive you until you apologize to Stella!"
Benjamin left. Stella turned her head and gave Olivia a taunting smile.
She mouthed the words: "You can't win!"
What Stella didn't know was that Olivia had long since stopped caring about winning. Her love for Benjamin had already been worn away by disappointment after disappointment.
She went to the magazine office to resign from her job.
The editor-in-chief was reluctant to let her go but could only wish her well.
"Only four months pregnant and already quitting to have the baby, Mrs. Monroe?"
"I prefer being called Olivia Gray. I've divorced my husband. I'm resigning because I'm immigrating abroad to be with my parents. We probably won't see each other again."
The editor was surprised. "How did this happen? Your husband clearly adored you. Your relationship was always so good—I remember he used to pick you up from work every day."
Olivia smiled. "How long ago was that?"
The editor paused, realizing that she indeed hadn't seen Olivia's husband in a very long time.
He used to come every day before Olivia got pregnant, but she hadn't seen him since.
Of course—because later, all his attention was on Stella. Where was there room for Olivia?
After leaving the magazine, Olivia went to Benjamin's company.
