At the Monroe house, Olivia had packed her luggage and was preparing to leave after picking up her immigration documents.
"Sweetheart, Mom has arranged for a car to take you to get your documents and then to the airport. The car is already at the door."
"Thanks, Mom."
Olivia took one last look at the house where she had lived for three years and got into the car.
On the way to the immigration office, she received a message from Benjamin.
[Stella says you blocked her. Olivia, when did you become so petty?]
Five minutes later, he sent another.
[Stella's baby will be discharged at noon today. Don't say I didn't warn you—this is your last chance. If you still want to remarry me, come to the hospital now and apologize to Stella. I'll convince her to forgive you.]
Olivia looked at the message thread and smiled cynically.
After all these years, how had she never noticed Benjamin's arrogance?
[Olivia, you've really made me angry this time. You did something wrong—is an apology too much to ask?]
[There are three hours until noon. Hurry up and come. Don't keep Stella waiting.]
Seeing his constant messages, Olivia grew irritated and blocked him too.
Not long after blocking him, he started sending text messages.
[You think you're so powerful now that you even dare to block me? Do you really think I'll keep indulging you? I'll give you one more chance—add me back immediately, or I really won't remarry you.]
Olivia felt completely exasperated. She took out her SIM card, snapped it in half, and threw it out the window.
The car arrived at the immigration office. After collecting her documents, she came out.
Before she could get back in the car, she ran into Benjamin and Stella coming from the opposite direction, along with his group of friends.
"Well, if it isn't Olivia Gray! Benjamin, didn't you say your wife never came to the hospital to apologize to Stella? Turns out she's here to ambush you."
"Olivia, didn't you already sign the divorce papers? Since you're divorced, it's none of your business who Benjamin marries, right?"
Benjamin was furious too, demanding loudly: "What are you doing here? Don't tell me you really came to stop me from marrying Stella like they're saying?"
He pinched the bridge of his nose, looking exhausted. "How many times do I have to explain? Stella and I are just getting married for show, only to give the baby legal status! I thought you understood, which is why you signed so readily. But it was all fake, wasn't it? You won't go to the hospital to apologize, and now you're here to block us. You're deliberately trying to make things difficult for me and Stella, aren't you?"
Olivia realized then that the marriage bureau was right next to the immigration office.
No wonder he thought she had come to stop him.
"Olivia, I don't need your apology. I just hope you can understand a mother's feelings. My baby needs legal status, and Benjamin is just trying to help. If you really mind, I'll divorce Benjamin as soon as the baby gets registered. Please, I'm begging you to let us do this. I'll kneel if I have to!"
Stella suddenly knelt before Olivia, crying so hard she could barely breathe.
Benjamin hugged her. "Stella, you don't need to beg her. Today, no one can stop me from marrying you!"
His friends joined in with complaints.
"Benjamin, how did we never realize what kind of person Olivia was?"
"She's not worthy of you at all. You and Stella are perfect for each other!"
"Benjamin already said it's just a fake marriage. Can't you just do a good deed? It's just a marriage certificate—it's not like he's abandoning you!"
They were so noisy that Olivia was getting a headache.
Her stomach felt uncomfortable, and she still had a flight to catch.
The sun was scorching as she pressed a hand to her forehead, feeling unwell.
"Are you done talking? If so, I'll be going now."
She turned to get in the car. Benjamin and his friends exchanged confused glances, not understanding what she was planning.
"Wait! Why did you come here today? What are you trying to do?"
Benjamin grabbed her arm, his expression extremely unpleasant.
Olivia shook off his hand, her tone cold: "Whatever it is, it's not to stop you from marrying Stella."
"You're still lying to yourself?"
Noticing the thick stack of documents in her hand, he frowned. "What are those papers?"
"We're divorced. It's none of your business."
Olivia closed the car door and instructed the driver to leave.
Benjamin stood by the car, watching her with growing unease.
He knocked on the window, and Olivia lowered it.
"Anything else?"
"I know you're upset, but Stella and I are really just getting married for show. After we get the certificate, I'll come home to you and the baby. By the way, don't you have a prenatal checkup tomorrow? I can go with you?"
Olivia looked at his face and gave a bitter smile.
She was four months pregnant, and he had never once accompanied her to the hospital.
Now that she was leaving, he suddenly wanted to take on fatherly responsibilities.
Too late.
"We'll talk tomorrow. Goodbye, Benjamin."
The window slowly closed, and the car drove away.
Watching it disappear into the distance, Benjamin felt an emptiness in his heart, as if he'd lost something important.
The car drove all the way to the airport. Standing at the security checkpoint, Olivia touched her belly.
Seven years with Benjamin were finally coming to an end.
Benjamin, since you enjoy raising other people's children so much, from now on, me and your own flesh and blood will leave you forever. We'll never appear before you again!
Clutching her boarding pass tightly, Olivia boarded the plane without looking back.
It was finally over. She was going to start her new life.
