Olivia's family was extremely wealthy. After her parents settled abroad, they didn't see each other very often.
Due to his insecurities, Benjamin rarely accompanied Olivia to visit her parents.
Whenever he saw them, he felt immense pressure.
But now, standing before the Gray family estate again, he realized there was an unbridgeable gap between him and Olivia.
For a woman like Olivia to have loved him was a blessing he hadn't deserved in several lifetimes, yet he had failed to cherish it.
He paced outside the gate for a long time, unable to gather the courage to enter.
As darkness fell, lights began to illuminate the estate one by one.
Sounds of celebration came from inside—it seemed some kind of party was being held.
Seeing people continually entering with invitations, Benjamin tried to follow but was stopped.
"Excuse me, sir. Your invitation?"
Benjamin awkwardly replied, "I don't have one."
"I'm sorry, but this is Miss Gray's birthday celebration. Without an invitation, you can't enter."
Benjamin suddenly remembered—today was Olivia's birthday.
In the past, he had never put much thought into her birthdays.
A bouquet of flowers, a lipstick—that was enough to make her happy for a long time.
But now he realized how superficial those gestures had been.
He excitedly called out, "I'm Benjamin Monroe, Miss Gray's husband! I need to see her!"
The butler at the door frowned: "I'm sorry, sir, but Miss Gray is divorced. She doesn't have a husband."
"Ex-husband then. I'm her ex-husband, okay?"
After Benjamin spoke, the butler looked him up and down.
"Without an invitation, you still can't enter."
Benjamin felt desperate. He took out all the cash he had and handed it to the butler, pleading, "Please, I'm begging you. Just tell her I'm here to see her."
Hearing the tearfulness in his voice, the butler relented. "Alright, I'll tell her. But whether the Miss Gray wants to see you or not is another matter."
"Thank you, thank you so much. She'll definitely want to see me!"
He was certain she would come out. After loving him for so many years, how could she just let go so easily?
When the butler reached the main hall, Olivia was entertaining guests with her parents.
Under the massive crystal chandelier, the woman in a white gown gracefully nodded and smiled at guests.
"Is that the Gray family's daughter? She's so beautiful."
"What good is beauty? She's already pregnant and just divorced from her husband, I heard."
"So what if she's pregnant? The Gray family is loaded—marry her and you're basically marrying a gold mine!"
"I wouldn't mind either. For such an exceptional woman, even if the baby isn't mine, I'd still treat her well!"
Olivia heard every word of their conversation clearly.
She curved her lips in a slightly resigned smile.
Since coming here, she had realized that love was completely dispensable!
She would take over her father's business and raise her child well.
What was love anyway?
"Miss, there's a man named Benjamin Monroe at the door. He says he's your ex-husband and wants to see you."
The butler's voice sounded in her ear. Olivia frowned—she hadn't expected Benjamin to find her here.
What was he doing here?
She had left to let him be with Stella. He should be happy about that.
"WHAT?! That jerk actually dares to come here looking for our Olivia?" her father exclaimed, anger rising in his voice.
"Send him away! He's not allowed near our family ever again!" Her mother was equally agitated. "He hurt Olivia so deeply—we're already being kind by not settling scores with him, and he still wants to see her?"
Compared to her parents, Olivia remained relatively calm.
She knew Benjamin's temperament—if she didn't see him today, he'd likely keep pestering her.
"Mom, Dad, let him in."
"Olivia, you're not still hoping for something with this man, are you?"
Her mother grabbed her arm worriedly. "Olivia, Benjamin isn't worthy of you. Please don't backslide!"
"Mom, don't worry. I just think it's better to make a clean break and say what needs to be said. After today, I won't see him again."
"All right, sweetheart. Dad supports you. Bring him in!"
Outside, a heavy rain had started pouring down. Benjamin was completely drenched.
Looking at the brightly lit estate, he was terrified that Olivia might refuse to see him, afraid he might never see her again.
"Mr. Monroe."
The butler approached with an umbrella. Benjamin quickly ran up and asked, "Well? Is Olivia willing to see me?"
"Miss Gray has asked you to come in."
