I found a ring. The second I slid it onto my finger, Liam Sterling—campus heartthrob, the guy every girl dreamed about—was suddenly obsessed with me. Like, full-on, head-over-heels, can't-breathe-without-me obsessed.
And me? I was… well, average. Just Sarah. But Liam swore I was the most beautiful girl in the world. Even his friends thought he'd lost it. They laughed behind his back, saying love really was blind if he'd mistaken a plain Jane like me for some dazzling gem.
For six months, I let myself believe it. I dropped my guard, let him in, and finally, I went home with him. But when I woke up the next morning, the ring was gone—and so was the Liam I knew.
His eyes were wide with horror as he shoved me away. "Who the hell are you?" he demanded, his voice shaking.
Just like that, it was over. He dumped me, told his friends I was some kind of freak. "The Sarah I knew wasn't like this," he spat, disgust twisting his face. "It's sick. I actually wasted half a year on her."
Then—time rewound.
The ring had flung me back six months. Turns out, it wasn't just some cheap trinket. It was magic. Wear it, and you become your crush's perfect woman.
I stared at the ring, my stomach churning. This time, I didn't put it on. I locked it away and swore I'd never touch it again.
What I didn't know? Liam had been dragged back with me.
After I blew off Chloe Evans, she didn't end up going to the party that night.
"Liam didn't even show," she whined, pouting. "He's 'sick' or something."
I shrugged. "Maybe next time."
Chloe grabbed my arm, her grip too tight. "Sarah, you have to come with me next weekend. It's always just me and a bunch of guys. It's so awkward."
I smirked, peeling her fingers off. "Why not ask Lucy?"
Her face twitched. "She's not going. Please, Sarah. I'm begging you!"
I knew exactly why she wanted me there and not Lucy. Lucy Miller was gorgeous—Chloe couldn't stand the competition. Me? I was invisible. The perfect wingman.
In my last life, I'd gone to that party. And Liam? He hadn't even looked at Chloe. His eyes had locked onto me like I was the only girl in the room.
After that, he pursued me like a man possessed. At first, I thought it was a joke—some cruel prank by the campus elite. But Liam was relentless. Sincere. No matter what his friends said, he never backed down.
And I… I fell for him.
Then, the morning after I finally gave in, Liam woke up like he'd seen a ghost. He threw me out, screaming that he didn't know me.
I stumbled back to my dorm, numb, only to realize—the ring was gone.
When I returned to his place to find it, Liam was surrounded by his friends, his face twisted in revulsion.
"The Sarah I knew wasn't like this," he snarled. "It's disgusting. I actually spent half a year with her. What the hell happened?"
I stood there, my heart shattering—
And then, time reset.
The ring was back in my drawer.
I dug out the faded instructions tucked inside the box:
This ring is enchanted. Wear it, and you will become the ideal woman of your secret crush.
My mission had failed. So the ring sent me back.
This time? I wasn't playing that game again.
I locked the ring away.
But I had no idea Liam remembered everything.
