When I woke up, Axel had already gone to work.
On the table, I saw a breakfast that had been prepared in advance.
At that moment, sunlight streamed through the window, casting its glow on every corner of the room.
I stretched lazily and ate the lovingly prepared breakfast.
Everything was so perfect.
However, this brief moment of bliss was soon interrupted by an unexpected surprise.
Halfway through my meal, a knock came at the door.
I opened it, only to be startled.
At that moment, Harper's appearance had completely changed, with disheveled hair, a few days’ worth of unshaven stubble and the strong scent of smoke and alcohol on him.
It was the first time I saw him like this.
“What are you here for?” I tried to close the door, but he pressed against it with all his might, stopping me.
“Zelda, I know I was wrong! I made a huge mistake!”
As he spoke, he started crying.
“It’s all in the past. It was your choice, Harper! Everything you’re going through now is something you have to face and bear!”
To be honest, the sight of him now disgusted me. If it were Axel, he would never have done something like this.
"I want to divorce her! Do we still have a chance?" Harper looked at me with hopeful eyes.
"Sorry, I don’t love you. Whether you divorce her or not is your own business. Please don’t interfere with my life!"
I had already made myself clear. I didn’t understand why he was insisting on this. Was it because he was shameless by nature?
"Then, if—just if— I did, would I still have a chance?"
I was stunned and firmly told him, "Harper, listen to me—I will never choose you, not in this life or any other!"
Although my words were harsh, they were the truth.
"I understand..." Harper said and left.
For some reason, I felt oddly perplexed.
The look he gave me as he left was strange, like there was something he wanted to say but couldn’t.
In the following days, my life finally became calm.
Every day, Axel would tell me about the interesting things he experienced at work and he always managed to make me laugh.
During this time, our relationship was rapidly heating up and I realized this was what it felt like to marry the right person.
It seemed like life wasn’t so bad after all.
During this period, all news related to Harper seemed to disappear. Even the troublemaker, Grace, who had constantly caused chaos, stopped appearing.
This actually felt a little strange to me.
Although everything seemed fine, I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off about the way Harper looked at me when he left. People said that women had a sixth sense and I didn't want to take any chances.
When Axel returned, I told him about it. "Be careful these next few days. I have a feeling something's going to happen."
Axel paused for a moment, then reassured me, "Don't worry. My reputation in Calbery is so bad that no one would dare mess with me!"
That was true, but I still felt uneasy.
The days went on as usual, but then something happened at the company.
On the first day back at work, I was told that a warehouse on the outskirts of the city had been robbed and the losses were quite significant.
I decided I would go check it out the next day.
However, little did I expect that this trip almost cost me my life.
The warehouse on the outskirts of the city had been storing valuable goods for many years and nothing had ever gone wrong, so I was really worried.
I called Axel in a hurry, but he didn’t answer. In panic, I sent him a message.
