Since it wasn't particularly far, I only brought along one driver.
The journey was a bit long and bumpy, so we weren't driving too fast. To my surprise, I actually dozed off in the car.
When I opened my eyes again, the car was already driving through a remote and desolate part of the countryside.
"Sir, how much longer until we arrive?"
"Not long, just need to cross the mountain up ahead and we’ll be there."
For some reason, a strong sense of unease suddenly washed over me.
I opened my phone, but there was still no response from Axel.
Thinking it might be a precaution, I sent him another location.
The vehicle continued on and finally, I saw a warehouse. The bumpy ride was finally coming to an end. I quietly promised myself that next time, I wouldn’t come here on my own.
Just then, Axel called.
"I've arrived. Were you just finishing up?"
The heavy sound of breathing came through the phone.
"Don’t go! It’s dangerous!"
My heart tightened. This had never happened before. I quickly asked, "What’s going on?"
There was a loud commotion on the other end of the call.
"Protect yourself. Wait for me. Don’t trust anyone from now on!"
I wanted to ask more, but suddenly a wave of dizziness hit me. My vision started to blur.
When I woke up again, I heard the sound of an iron gate being opened.
"Where am I?" I kept asking myself, my hands tightly bound, unable to move.
A figure slowly approached me. In the dim light, I saw who it was.
"Harper! What do you want?"
Harper no longer resembled the charming young man he once was. At this moment, he looked like a freak, his hair disheveled, slowly stepping toward me.
"I have no way out now! I’ve made a decision! Now, I only want to atone for my mistakes!" He spoke to himself, but his eyes were empty, as though he had lost his sanity.
In the distance, my phone lay still and in my current state, there was no way I could reach it.
A deep, overwhelming despair surged through me.
The only person who could save me now was Axel.
Harper went about setting up the wedding scene, as if he really intended to marry me. I could only silently hope that Axel would arrive soon. If he was late, I truly feared what might happen.
I didn’t know how long it took, but once Harper had finished preparing everything, he dragged me over to the setup.
"Now, you’re going to marry me. Are you happy?" he said, speaking to himself. The more he talked like this, the more I felt uneasy.
Despair hit me like a flood, overwhelming me.
It wasn't until I heard the sound of the door breaking open that I came to my senses.
Seeing Axel rush in, I knew I was safe.
But then, I noticed that Axel was also injured. It looked like he had run into trouble as well.
Axel kicked Harper to the ground and Harper began to cry.
I was held tightly in Axel's arms as he carried me away.
Three days later, my body had mostly recovered. Honestly, there wasn't much to it. It was just that Axel insisted I should stay in the hospital for a few days of observation.
As for him, he was covered in injuries and his arm was even broken.
I asked him what had happened that day, but he refused to tell me. Only after I got angry did he finally speak up.
It turned out that not only had I been targeted, but Axel had also been set up.
Harper had arranged for someone to tamper with Axel's car, causing the brakes to fail. That night, Axel crashed heavily into a bridge support.
When he got out of the car, a group of people rushed at him with weapons. During the fight with them, he got injured. He hadn’t been able to respond to my messages and when he finally saw them, he suddenly realized something was wrong.
