The valley echoed with the clash of metal and the thunder of drills as smoke rose gently from the forge. With the parts scavenged from Dalen’s wrecked jet and the abandoned jet fragments from the last attack. A new age of warfare began in the mountain village.
Under Dalen’s direction, the soldiers and villagers worked side by side, fusing old traditions with modern warfare.
They reforged steel, stripped usable wires and gears, and carefully reassembled what could still work. The jets plasma cells became a generator for an energy grid in the village, powering simple defenses and charging basic weaponry.
At the far end of the village, a heavy machine gun—a salvaged Vulcan turret—was mounted on a watchtower built from reinforced wood and stone. Dalen named it Echo Fang.
Training began immediately.
Dalen stood before a group of warriors, mostly hunters and sword-bearers.
“This is not just a weapon,” he said, pointing to the mounted gun. “It’s a tool. It can be your shield—or your death—if you don’t respect it.”
He taught them how to fire, clean, and reload.
He trained scouts in tripwire traps, grenade charges, and detonation timing using gunpowder and wires.
Avera, still glowing faintly from the Flame Core’s touch, trained with a small group of elite defenders—those chosen to guard her and the if the front lines fell.
Even the children ran supplies and shaped arrowheads. Every hand was needed. Every hour counted.
By sunset, the village no longer looked like a cluster of homes. It had become a fortress of survivors—a blend of ancient stone and modern steel. Dalen stood above the village, arms folded, watching the last adjustments on a makeshift barricade.
Marah approached him.
“You’ve turned warriors into soldiers.”
Dalen nodded. “We’ll need more than swords to stop what’s coming.”
Marah looked toward the distant hills. “And what of the weapon we can’t see? The one built in labs, controlled by evil minds?”
Dalen's eyes narrowed.
“I’ve seen what they built. But they’ve never seen what fire looks like when it’s angry and free.”
