...5 years later...
"What did you get?" I asked Fidel over the comm while monitoring the lines of code that were appearing on the computer screen. Hunter leaned in to listen to the conversation. I put it on the speaker.
"Not a single one alive. They took themselves out before we got here," Fidel replied over the comm. In the background, I could hear the rest of the men of the raid team tearing down the place to find what those mad Hoard Scientists had been up to.
We'd been trying to find them for months, and after a lot of tracking and snooping around, we finally managed to find their location.
"That's what I thought," Hunter spoke beside me. "Someone tipped them,"
"What about their computers? Did they destroy them? I'm unable to get anything here," I said, looking at the lines of codes. I'd been trying to hack the scientists's computers for the longest time but to no avail. They always found a way to evade me, but not anymore. I managed to hack the computer of one of their dealers and find their location.
"They destroyed almost all of them, but we've found one intact. You can get something from that," Fidel offered. In the background, the sound of the raid team working grew louder.
"Great. Bring them. I'd like to have a look at them and see what kind of fuckery they were up to," I said.
"Yes. We're taking them dow-HOLY SHIT!!! FUCK THIS!!! FUCK NO! I'M OUT-" His screams were interrupted by a gaging noise before I heard Fidel vomiting.
Hunter took the comm away from me instantly and shoved my vomit bucket in front of me.
"I'm fine," I groaned at him, pushing the bucket away.
"No, keep this. I don't want you throwing over the keyboards again. Cleaning them was a pain in the ass last time," Hunter hissed, making me hold the bucket.
"I don't get morning sickness anymore. I'm in my second trimester," I hissed at him, but he shook his head. The memory of me puking all over the keyboards was still fresh in his head, and he wasn't willing to take any risks anymore.
"Fidel, what's going on?" Hunter asked, taking the comm. Meanwhile, I t tossed the bucket aside and leaned in to listen more carefully.
"I just walked into the basement, and it's filled with... stuff," Fidel answered. The terror and disgust in his voice were thick, and I looked at Hunter, puzzled.
"What stuff?" I asked.
"Bodies," Fidel answered, sounding sick. "Bodies of women and children. All cut up and sewed up. They were trying to create more Frankenstein's of sorts. Vera's estimating they were trying to build bio-weapons," Fidel answered. Hunter placed an assuring hand over my thigh.
"Send me pictures," Hunter shot before disconnecting the line. "You need to leave now, Myra. I don't want you to look at the stuff,"
"I want to look," I asserted. "I've been on the hunt for a while, and I want to see,"
"Myra," Hunter leaned in, touching the small bump. "Please, I don't want to see it, please, not in this state. You've done a great job tracking them. It wouldn't have been possible without you, but please, baby, I don't want you to see the gore and fall sick," Hunter spoke softly to me, and I almost melted at his words.
"I really want to-"
"Please," Hunter requested. "I know you want to, but please. You've had it rough in this pregnancy. You weren't so sick and tired when you were pregnant with Ralph and Aries,"
"Alright," I sighed deeply because he was right. This was my thirst pregnancy, and the first trimester was the roughest this time. No matter how curious I was to see the things there, I wasn't sure if I could keep it down if I saw the gore. Fidel said there were dead bodies of children, too.
I didn't think I'd be able to take that because I had two kids of my own, and the third one was on its way.
"I will go check on the boys and see if Mateo's back from the pack meeting. You'll tell me everything, right?" I asked him.
"Of course I will," Hunter promised, pecking my lips sweetly. The mark on my breast sizzled from his kiss, and I wanted to kiss her deeper, but this wasn't the time. "Go rest now. You've been awake since six in the morning. You didn't have your nap today," Hunter urged.
"I don't feel like sleeping," I told him, "But I'll see. What do you want for lunch?" I asked him before leaving.
"Whatever you and Angela decide to cook. Now, please go. Fidel has sent me a bunch of pictures, and I'm going to open them," Hunter pressed.
"Alright," I said and walked out of our office. I heard the door lock behind me. Hunter really didn't want me to see the gore. Just thinking about how Fidel had reacted made me feel uneasy, and even though Hunter had ensured that I didn't see anything, my mind was already conjuring many images. I tried to push those gore-filled thoughts out of my head as I went into the playroom to check on my boys.
Usually, Freya, our nanny, looked over them when all three of us were busy. I gently knocked on the playroom door and quietly entered it in case my boys were sleeping.
"Luna," Freya acknowledged me as I walked in quietly. I noticed Ralph, my eldest son, passed out on the floor while Freya gently rocked Aries to sleep. I peeked at Ralph and he was sleeping like he was the one who ran the pack. I smiled at him. Ralph looked more like Mateo than Mateo himself, while Aries took after Hunter completely, but he had my eyes.
It made me wonder what the third one would look like. I was really hoping for a cute little girl. Mateo and Hunter wanted a girl, too. It'd make them so happy, but I had a feeling that this one would be a boy, too.
"Let them sleep here together," I told Freya when Aries was completely asleep. "I'll be in the office, and it'd be easier to check on them,"
"Okay," Freya nodded before she eyed my bump. "Did you feel any sickness today, Luna?" She asked.
"I'm doing oddly fine today," I shrugged.
"Alright. The doctor said you should come in tomorrow for an ultrasound," Freya reminded me. She was also a nurse at the Pack Hospital and had helped me in my previous pregnancies.
"Yeah, I will. I wonder if I'm having a girl this time," I pondered out loud, and Freya chuckled.
"I think it might be a girl. You're glowing," Freya smiled.
"Isn't it supposed to be the opposite? They say the girls steal mom's beauty,"
"No, that's nonsense, but I feel it will be a girl. The Alphas really want a girl," Freya said.
"I want it to be a girl, too," I pouted, patting my bump. "Please be a girl. We've got too many boys in this house already," I said, and Freya chuckled. "Would you mind looking after them for a couple more hours? I know you're supposed to leave early today, but we've got this thing today." I tried not to think about the terrible pictures Hunter was looking at.
"No problem," Freya assured. I glanced at my boys before going downstairs to have lunch. I wasn't feeling hungry, but I still decided to eat because I had a small breakfast today.
"I'll just make myself some smoothie. You don't have to fuss," I told our cook, Angela, as soon as I entered the kitchen. She nodded before leaving. I must've gotten too busy making my smoothie to notice the sound of the front door opening and closing.
It wasn't until he was right behind me that I realised Mateo was finally back. I gasped in surprise as he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me against him before showering me with kisses. My heart fluttered in my chest at the attention, and my nipples tightened. The horniness was finally coming back after being completely sick and miserable in my first trimester.
"I missed you so much," I said, turning around to kiss Mateo. He'd been all morning.
"I'm sorry to keep you waiting," Mateo assured me, placing more kisses over my jaw and neck. His mark on my neck tingled with pleasure, making me want more. "What is she doing?" Mateo asked, touching my bump.
"Sleeping," I sighed, "and I think it's a he again,"
"How are you sure?" Mateo challenged.
"I don't know," I shrugged. "I just feel it. My guesses were right with Ralph and Aries,"
"You're going to be wrong this time," Mateo stated fiercely.
"Well, that's what you said at the time of Ralph and Aries," I reminded him, and he frowned. "But I hope it's a girl, too," I told him quickly.
"The boys were sleeping, aren't they?"
"How did you know?" I giggled.
"It's too quiet in this house, and I wasn't welcomed with screams and punches the moment I walked in," He pointed out. "And is Hunter still in the office?" He asked.
"Yes, we found them and..." I trailed off, remembering the call.
"And?" Mateo pressed, a dark look crossed his face.
"It's a mess," I told him. "Hunter sent me out of the office because there was too much gore,"
"I've got to look at it then," He stated and headed upstairs.
"Wait," I followed, climbing the stairs after him. "You didn't tell me what the other Alphas said about the epidemic. Is it the same one related to the Hoard scientists?"
Mateo froze at my question, which was an answer in itself. I swore under my breath as I caught up to him.
"Fidel said there were dead bodies of women and children mostly. Vera's nudging at the bio-weapons theory more. It seems she's been right about the Hoard Scientists spreading the disease all along," I said, and he looked even more pissed.
"Are any of the Hoard scientists alive?" Mateo growled. I could feel his fury through the bond.
"No, they offed themselves and destroyed their computers before our raiders arrived," I told him.
"Someone tipped them," Mateo growled, and that's what I had been thinking too. "I need to find the mole quickly,"
As soon we entered the hallway to the office, Hunter burst through the door, his eyes wide. Mateo and I froze, looking at him baffled.
"Myra!" Hunter breathed.
"What is it?" I pushed past Mateo towards Hunter, trying to sense his emotions through the bond. "Are you okay? Was it too much?" I asked him, but he grabbed my wrist and led me into the office. I followed him silently.
I was hoping to see gore pictures, but I saw a video call request from an unknown profile on the big screen.
"What's going on?" Mateo asked Hunter, but he was too busy typing away on the keyboard.
"Are you there?" Hunter asked over the comm. I realised he was on a call with someone already. I wondered who it could be.
"Yes," The voice that answered pricked my skin. The next moment, Hunter disconnected the call and accepted the video call request.
A hauntingly familiar face blinked back at me from the screen. A face that was so familiar to me because I'd seen it in my nightmares. A face that was very familiar to mine, especially the eyes. However, I noticed a strange glow in her eyes; they were puffy and red as if she'd been crying.
"Arika," I breathed. Shocked, surprised, terrified, and petrified, I froze as memories from the abandoned port started flashing in front of my eyes, and the moon goddess' words rang in my ears.
'In the near future, she'll reach out to you for an important favour. You mustn't turn her down then.'
"Myra, I need your help. Please," My half-sister sniffed.
