MATEO
The trial stretched long, but it went smoothly. Hunter and I didn't have to do much. Our lawyers took care of it all. All that we needed to do was to be present there. It was boring sitting there for hours.
Even though I was in my pack hall, undergoing the trial with my brother, my mind was back at our home with Myra. I wondered what she was doing while we were here. She had started working on the servers almost immediately when we reached here.
I was sure she was still with them when our trial ended late in the venting. As soon as the trial ended, we wasted no time going home to our mate. I had been right- we found her with the servers when we reached home.
She was sitting on the floor of our library, surrounded by her computers, her eyes glued to the screen in a transfixed manner. She even failed to notice us when we entered the library.
Finally, when she noticed us, her eyes lit up brightly. This always pleased me, but her excitement to see us grabbed my attention.
"Is everything working?" I asked her, looking at her setup. I was already planning to make a separate officer for her where she could put all her computers and work comfortably.
"Yes, and you wouldn't believe this... but I cracked the code," She replied.
"Really? I haven't heard from the cryptologists yet," Hunter said, but she shook her head.
"I told you they wouldn't be able to crack it. It was a personal note," She explained, looking back at her screens sombrely.
"What did it say? Did you figure out who did all this?" I asked, looking at her servers. Hunter sat by her side, looking at what she was working on.
"Yes," She answered. "I know who did it and why they did it, and where they can be found,"
"Damn, that was fast! It's a shame I wasn't here to help you. You'd have been faster," Hunter remarked, and Myra rolled her eyes.
"It'd have taken me days if you were here to help me," she shot back. Hunter grinned at her jab.
"Could you blame me for that?" He said, leaning closer to place a kiss on her cheek.
"Such a flirt," Myra snickered. "We need to focus. We cannot lose more time,"
"Then tell us who is behind all of this? What did the code read?" I asked, feeling slightly impatient about the whole issue because now, not only were Drakkons involved in it, but also the Mad Alpha Rikkard. Both were a bad combination to have your troubles come from.
"Both the code read one name- Revaan," Myra replied.
"Who's that?" Hunter asked. Myra looked slightly uncomfortable at the question, but she answered after a short pause. "Revaan Erkwood is the name of my biological mother,"
I stiffened. Hunter shot me a look as well. This was a new revelation to us.
"Is she the one who did this?" I asked.
"No," Myra answered. "I'm an orphan, remember? Revaan died when I was maybe three. I remember very little of her... but no, she didn't do this. I watched the surveillance footage from the house we got these servers from. One month after my accident, I saw someone sneak into the house and wander around. That person was also kind enough to show me their face," Myra said, typing something up on her laptop.
Hunter gasped when he looked at the screen. I circled the servers to see what made my brother react like that. On the screen was the face of a woman. However, I was surprised that she looked a lot like Myra but had different hair.
"Who is she?" Hunter asked while I stared at the picture.
"This is my half-sister," She replied curtly. I didn't miss the contempt laced in her voice.
"You have biological siblings?" I asked her in surprise. I felt slightly ashamed for not knowing such important details about her family or childhood. I needed to know a lot more about her.
"She is the only one I know of. I grew up with her in the orphanage, and she disappeared one day. I couldn't have cared less about her because we rarely got along. It was presumed that she ran away and died. I could've never guessed it'd be her," She said, staring at the screen absentmindedly. "After all these years..." She trailed off, the contempt growing thicker in her voice.
"But how did she know about you being Morgan?" Hunter asked. I had the same question.
"We'll ask her about it when we catch her," Myra sneered, "She has troubled me enough already and now, she's pushing too far. I'm going to kill her once I catch her,"
"Calm down, pussy cat," Hunter spoke, wrapping his arm around Myra. However, his words or his embrace did nothing to calm her down. The murderous rage remained in her eyes, and I didn't miss how her body looked tenser. Dark bags were starting to form under her eyes.
"You've had a long day already. We'll deal with this tomorrow," I declared, offering her my hand, but she scoffed at me.
"Are you serious?" She shot. "I wouldn't be able to rest until she's caught. You don't know how she is. She is dangerous,"
"Like you?" Hunter whispered suggestively, and for a second, Myra looked at my brother as if she wanted to kiss and punch him at the same time.
"I'll have my men look for her, Myra," I assured her, "You'll go to bed after giving all her details to me,"
"Hah! Have your men look for her? I wonder how that went last time with me," Myra snickered. "She is not right in the head. You men wouldn't be able to do shit,"
"And that's why only you can find her?" I asked, crossing my arms on my chest and levelling her with a determined look. Myra shrugged nonchalantly.
"Well, we came from the same woman, and as far as I know, she wasn't right in the head either. Would it be surprising if we inherited some of her madness?" Myra asked.
"You're not mad," I told her, but Myra laughed.
"Well, I'm not sane either," she said sardonically, "But it's not about me. It's about her. We cannot afford to waste more time. She's out there and doing everything to put more targets on my back. She did it with Rikkard, and now, she might do it with the Drakkons. There is simply no time to waste here," Myra stated firmly. I grunted because I had nothing to say against that.
I knew that time was slowly running out, and we needed to act before Myra's half-sister could get us in more trouble.
"Tell us about her," I urged. "We'll deal with her either way," Myra sighed deeply at my sternness, but she told us about her half-sister anyway.
"Her name is Arika Erkwood, and she..."
