MYRA
"And why is she here?" The mad Alpha asked, wearing an arrogant expression on his face. Even though he didn't say it, I could hear the misogyny in his voice. He was one of those Alphas who believed that Lunas shouldn't have any say in important pack matters and should only be interested in child-rearing and playing kitty parties with the rest of the she-wolves of the pack.
A part of me was glad that he didn't have a mate despite being older than Mateo. He was most definitely going to die mateless, and I was glad for that. A she-wolf's life would be spared.
Seeing me intensified the look of annoyance on his face. It made me wonder why I hadn't given him more trouble in the past. It'd have been worth it, but I wouldn't let go of any opportunity to trouble him in the future.
I was putting up with him because we were running out of time, and I grew increasingly anxious whenever I thought of Arika messing with my servers. They were the work of my life. I wouldn't let that bitch get away if she somehow fucked them up.
"I know Morgan," I answered this time. "I've been after them for a long time, and I know a lot more about them than any person out there," It felt odd speaking about myself in the third person, but I kept a straight face.
Rikkard cocked an eyebrow at me while interest flashed in his eyes. I felt Mateo tensing up beside me. He was still holding my hand under the table but had stopped drawing small circles with his thumb.
"Really? Then tell me everything you know about her," He said with a particular emphasis on her. Mateo and Hunter were both tense on my sides.
"How do you know Morgan is a woman?" I asked, sounding curious. Rikkard chuckled.
"Only a woman would try to infiltrate my military systems and fail so gloriously," Rikkard snarked. I clenched my fists under the table. I wanted to drive them straight to his face and wipe that smirk off permanently. It was decided- once I got back my servers, I was going to fuck him up and make an example of him.
"What a rational way of thinking," I commented flatly. Rikkard barked another of his sardonic laughs and gave me a demeaning look.
"I don't expect you to get it," He sneered, "But I know Morgan is a woman because I have my eyes and ears in a lot of places, too,"
Instantly, I knew he was talking about the Weddard witches. They knew about me because I had worked closely with them. However, they had sworn secrecy about it. Still, this information found a way to be leaked, and I wondered how much more those witches had told him about me.
For someone who was the champion of misogynists, he was too good of friends with the witches.
"We can trade information then," Mateo suggested. Rikkard cocked his eyebrow again in that arrogant way.
"I'm not sure how much I'll be able to trust anything I get from her," He commented, and Hunter growled. I heard Mateo grinding his teeth beside me. "But I want to catch that bitch and am willing to do anything for that," He added.
What a gentleman.
"Tell me about what Morgan tried to do with your systems," I probed immediately.
"She tried to break into one of my military systems by pretending to be someone from my pack, but she got caught," Rickard shrugged. With his response, I tried to gauge how much Arika could operate my servers without being locked out.
"Can you send me more details?" I asked, "Did she leave any trails behind? Did she get anything first, or was she detected right away?"
So many questions were bubbling in my head, and I wanted the answers to them to understand more about what Arika was up to. By the look on Rikkard's face, I was expecting him to brush off my questions and demand something in return.
But he surprised us by answering, "I'll send you whatever I can and yes, she managed to get her hands on something very important. I need to find her soon," The darkness in his tone was enough for me to guess what he was talking about.
Frosterium. Fucking snow dust.
"This is not a wild guess but rather a hypothesis," I started, "But I have a feeling that this isn't Morgan. She doesn't work this way,"
"How are you so sure?" He asked.
"Oh, trust her. She knows what she's talking about," Hunter chipped.
"And I find it strange that we haven't gotten anything from Morgan for months, but for some reason, she goes after you," Mateo joined.
This made Rikkard pause and think.
"I'm certain it's Morgan because of the trail she left. It had some of her signatures," Rikkard said, making me almost groan. Arika wasn't playing. She was out there to destroy me in every way she possibly could.
"We'd like to look at them, too," Mateo said.
"Alright then. I'll send you whatever I can," Rikkard said in a dismissive tone but before he could disconnect from the call, Hunter asked casually, "What did she steal from you?"
I noticed how Rikkard clenched his jaw at the question. His nostrils flared angrily.
"None of your business," He stated and disconnected the call before we could utter another word.
"It's something to do with snow dust. I'm sure about it," I answered Hunter's question.
"I thought so too," Hunter returned.
"That went better than my expectations," Mateo commented, and I sighed deeply, still feeling annoyed by this whole exchange. "But how did he know about Morgan being a woman?"
"The Weddards," I told him. "Witches love gossiping. It had to be them because I don't see any other source. I need to know who did this," I gritted to myself. I had been away for a couple of months, and the sky seemed to be collapsing on me. This was overwhelming but, at the same time, infuriating.
I needed to tie a lot of loose ends.
As if Hunter could read my enraging thoughts, he tugged at my hand, snapping me out of my head.
"Come with me," He said huskily.
