At this point, it didn't matter who seduced whom. They were both equally guilty. My kindness had been wasted on a backstabbing snake, and I felt absolutely no guilt cutting her off for good.
"Honey," Isaac tried again, his voice dripping with fake remorse, "don't be like this. We're still married, aren't we? There's no need to treat Jessica so harshly. If you're upset about what happened at the hospital earlier, I'm so sorry."
I nearly scoffed at his audacity. Just hours ago, he'd stood beside Jessica, hurling false accusations at me like some self-righteous judge. And now, as I walked away, he had the nerve to play the wounded, apologetic husband.
"Jessica and I… it was just a mistake," he stammered, tripping over his own lies. "We got caught up in the moment, but we both trust you—"
I cut him off, my patience long gone. "Enough! I don't want to hear another word of your pathetic excuses."
My voice was ice. "Just remember—tomorrow's the last day of our divorce cooling-off period. Don't forget to show up at court."
A beat of silence. Then, desperation. "Honey, you can't be serious about this! I thought you were just angry. Divorce is too extreme—I won't agree to it! Just wait, I'm coming to find you—"
I didn't give him the satisfaction of a reply. The call ended with a sharp click.
Midnight came and went. No sign of Isaac. He was probably still at the hospital, fussing over Jessica like some tragic hero. But for the first time, I didn't feel that familiar sting of disappointment. The sadness, the heartache—it had all burned away, leaving nothing but cold resolve.
Wasting another second on those two was beneath me. Their downfall was coming, and I didn't need to lift a finger to make it happen.
Alone in the quiet of my room, I let my mind drift back to the beginning—back when Isaac and I were just university students. He'd known from the start that I was the one supporting Jessica financially.
Isaac came from nothing. I came from privilege. I'd covered his bills when he couldn't, smoothed his path when he struggled. After graduation, when no firm would take him, it was my father who pulled strings, connecting him with a high-profile lawyer. That lawyer gave him everything—mentorship, connections, a career.
And what did Isaac do with it? He climbed the ladder, became one of the city's top divorce attorneys… and then plunged a knife into my back.
For over a decade, I'd misjudged him. This marriage had been a mistake—one I was finally ready to erase.
Tomorrow, I'd shut this ###Chapter of my life for good.
