After making my decision, I felt strangely liberated.
I invited my best friend to Ocean View Nightclub for drinks—my unofficial bachelorette party.
Walking down the hallway, I spotted a familiar figure.
It was Lily—but nothing like the innocent girl I'd met.
She wore a micro-mini black dress, blood-red lipstick, and held a slim cigarette between her fingers.
A middle-aged man decked out in designer clothes had her pinned against the wall, kissing her neck while his hands roamed freely up her thigh.
Seeing my shocked expression, my friend Amber Morgan tugged my arm and nodded toward Lily.
"You know her?"
"Sort of," I mumbled.
"No way. How does Madison know a VIP hostess?"
I spun toward her. "What did you call her?"
Amber shrugged innocently. "She goes by 'Songbird' here. You don't come to these places often, but I practically live at Ocean View. I know all the regulars."
The man released Lily, his face flushed. "Let's go somewhere private, baby. Daddy wants to take good care of you."
Lily looked up with a practiced smile and caught my eye.
To my surprise, she didn't look panicked at all.
"Well, if it isn't Madison!" she called out cheerfully.
The man turned, his greasy gaze crawling over my body before his lips curved into a predatory smile.
"Songbird, is this your friend? Maybe she'd like to join us..."
Lily's laugh was silky smooth. "Madison would love to. After all, she's been Jonah's plaything for years—what's one more man?"
"Besides, your reputation's already in tatters, isn't it, sweetie?"
The man's hand reached toward my chest with a sleazy grin. "In that case, don't mind if I—"
Before he could touch me, I slapped him hard across the face.
He cupped his cheek, rage flashing in his bloodshot eyes.
"You little bitch! How dare you!"
As Amber screamed, he grabbed my hair and slammed my head against the wall.
Through the pain and dizziness, I heard a familiar voice: "What's going on here?"
I forced my eyes open to see Jonah approaching.
The man took one look and scurried away.
"Jonah!" Lily cried, her voice suddenly high and trembling. "Thank God you're here! I was almost assaulted!"
Jonah pulled her against him protectively, stroking her hair.
"It's okay, baby. I'm here now. Tell me what happened. Why are you even in a place like this?"
Lily looked up with teary eyes and a quivering lip.
"Madison texted me to meet her at Ocean View. I've never been somewhere like this before, but I thought it would be safe with her."
"But then she introduced me to this strange man, saying I should 'entertain' him."
"He grabbed me and touched me all over. Look, he left bruises on my thigh..."
She lifted her skirt to reveal angry red marks on her pale skin.
