                    CRACK!
The sound of the slap echoed through the hallway.
I stood frozen, my hand instinctively touching my burning cheek, unable to process what had just happened.
Slowly turning my head, I met Jonah's blazing eyes.
"How did you become so venomous, Madison?" he spat.
"Just because you have no dignity left, you want to drag Lily down to your level?!"
"She's the purest, most innocent girl I've ever met. If you ever try to hurt her again, I'll make you wish you were never born!"
In our seven years together, Jonah had never raised a hand to me despite all our problems.
Now, based solely on Lily's word, he'd struck me without hesitation.
Before I could respond, Amber exploded.
"What the actual hell, Jonah?! You just hit Madison for some VIP hostess? That sleazy guy was clearly with Lily! Are you brain-dead, believing every lie she feeds you?"
Jonah whirled toward Amber, his eyes narrowing dangerously.
"VIP hostess? You're using that disgusting label for a young, innocent girl?!"
"No wonder you and Madison are friends—both of you are equally trashy and vile!"
Amber jumped forward, face flushed with righteous anger. "Dare call us trash? You and your whore are the real filth! You threw away a decent woman for some bar slut who's been fucking around the club! "
"You—!" Jonah's face turned purple with rage as he raised his hand to strike Amber.
I quickly pulled her behind me.
Jonah was acting like a mother hen protecting her chick—anyone who dared criticize Lily would face his wrath.
"Let's go, Jonah," Lily said timidly. "I don't want to cause trouble with Madison."
Jonah took Lily's hand and nodded.
He turned back to me, looking down with contempt.
"Madison, since we've broken up, stop stalking me and maybe I can still remember you somewhat fondly."
"Swear right now that you'll never appear in front of me or Lily again."
I simply looked at him without speaking.
Jonah grew impatient. "Had enough of staring? Swear it, before I really lose my temper!"
I gave a slight laugh. "Fine, I swear. Jonah, I won't bother you ever again."
Jonah's body tensed briefly, his expression unreadable.
He had gotten what he wanted—what more could he possibly demand?
After a moment, he left with Lily.
Amber continued ranting indignantly beside me, but I felt oddly calm.
Seven years of entanglement had been severed with that single slap.
I could finally let go without regret.
It was time to leave.
