The butler reluctantly relayed Madison's exact words to Jonah, watching as his employer's expression darkened ominously.
As the butler finished speaking, Jonah abruptly stood up and smashed his wine glass on the floor.
Glass shattered, red wine soaking the expensive carpet.
"Is that really what she said?" Jonah's voice was cold and damp with fury. "That slut is cheating on me?"
"Everyone in Torrance knows Madison is my woman. Who would dare set their sights on her?"
Jonah's piercing gaze swept across everyone present, causing the intoxicated guests to shiver involuntarily.
"Sir," one man said with a nervous smile, "Madison is just trying to make you jealous. She's only saying this to upset you!"
Others quickly agreed.
"That's right! Everyone knows Madison can't live without you. How could she possibly be with someone else?"
"Don't worry, she won't last a few hours. She'll probably cause a scene at your engagement tomorrow!"
Their reassurances calmed Jonah down.
It was true—Madison had followed him for seven years. Whenever he tried to break up with her, she'd threaten self-harm.
Though the Hayes family came from good standing, they had declined in recent years. They needed this marriage alliance with the Blake family to save themselves from ruin.
How could a woman so completely devoted to him allow him to get engaged to someone else? And how could she possibly move on to another man?
A cold smile spread across Jonah's lips. "Madison's really developed quite an attitude. Seems she needs to be taught a lesson."
The engagement ceremony was tomorrow. Madison would surely lose her composure and make a scene.
When that happened, he would humiliate her thoroughly to satisfy his current anger.
The next day, at Torrance's five-star hotel:
Lily stood in the grand hall wearing a princess-style white tulle dress with soft pink makeup, smiling as she greeted guests.
Jonah stood beside her in a perfectly tailored black suit, looking somewhat distracted.
He repeatedly glanced toward the entrance, searching for a familiar figure without success.
Suddenly, Jonah realized this was a private engagement party—without an invitation, no one could enter.
Could Madison be waiting outside, blocked by security?
He called over one of his assistants.
"Go watch the main entrance. If Madison Hayes shows up..."
"I understand, sir! I'll send her away immediately. She won't disturb you and your fiancée!"
"You idiot!" Jonah kicked him. "Who said to send her away?"
"Oh? Then what should I do?" The assistant looked confused.
"If you see her... bring her to me."
"Oh..." The assistant scratched his head in confusion before leaving.
But even as the ceremony's starting time approached, there was still no sign of Madison.
"Jonah, we should go on stage now." Lily gently took his arm, her cheeks flushed.
"Let's go then," Jonah replied, his tone irritable.
Just as he turned around, a clear voice called out from behind: "Wait!"
