My days in Harbor City were peaceful, and Vincent treated me exceptionally well.
My sister said that under Vincent's influence, our father and stepmother had become increasingly kind to her as well.
I gradually forgot the unbearable days in Torrance. The broken pieces of my former self were slowly being mended by Vincent.
One day, Vincent returned from an outing and gently took my hand, guiding me to sit in his lap.
"Madison, it's time to return to Torrance."
"Have you found who framed you?"
Vincent nodded slightly. "Madison, if you don't want to return to Torrance, we can stay in Harbor City. But transferring operations will take time, and I'll need to return frequently to manage company affairs."
I shook my head. "Vincent, the past is just passing clouds. I can face it calmly now, so don't worry about me."
"Torrance is your home. Let's go home."
Back in Torrance, Vincent introduced me to the elder Mr. Blake.
The kind-faced gentleman held my hand and couldn't stop praising me. When discussing Vincent's accident, he nearly shed tears.
After a long conversation with Vincent, the elder Mr. Blake decided to organize a family dinner.
First, to announce Vincent's return; second, to make our marriage public; and third, to root out the toxic elements within the Blake family.
On the afternoon of the family dinner, the servants were busy with preparations, and Vincent had gone elsewhere.
Feeling a bit bored, I wandered slowly around the courtyard, smelling the flowers and watching the fish in the pond.
Under a white magnolia tree, I tilted my head back, inhaling the sweet fragrance.
A voice suddenly broke the tranquility.
"Madison? What are you doing here?"
I looked up to see Jonah in a dark gray suit walking toward me.
After days apart, he seemed to have lost some weight.
Not wanting to engage with him before the dinner began, I turned to leave, but he grabbed my wrist.
"Madison, where have you been all this time? Answer me!"
I gently pulled my hand away. "It's none of your business. I have no obligation to report my whereabouts to you."
I had never treated Jonah so coldly before. Disbelief flashed in his eyes.
Suddenly, his eyes widened as if he'd realized something.
"Madison, during your disappearance, you've been here at the family home trying to win over my grandfather!"
"Seeing that I wouldn't marry you, you took an indirect approach—first convincing my grandfather, so I'd be forced to marry you under family pressure!"
"You really are manipulative, willing to use any means to achieve your goal!"
I couldn't help but laugh softly. How had I never noticed before what a comedian Jonah was?
Jonah snorted coldly. "Madison, you know I hate being forced into things. The more you push, the more I detest you."
"I advise you to leave now, or you'll be the one embarrassed at the family dinner."
"Come with me. I'll have my driver take you home."
I tilted my head, looking at him. In Jonah's mind, Madison would always follow behind him, clinging like a leech.
Since he was so confident, I'd let him enjoy his delusion a little longer.
Let's see who would really be embarrassed at the family dinner.
