Jonah's injuries were severe. The ashtray had struck his brain stem, causing significant damage.
He remained in a coma at the hospital. When his parents learned that their only son had become a vegetative patient, they fainted from grief.
Out of humanitarian consideration, Vincent waived Jonah's medical expenses. Given their current financial situation, his family probably couldn't even afford the hospitalization costs.
Lily and Mr. Wilson were quickly sentenced to several years in prison.
Since my pregnancy, Vincent has been taking meticulous care of me.
He canceled all non-essential social engagements, not caring if others teased him about being henpecked.
"I'm proud to dote on my wife. The smarter the man, the more he knows that cherishing his wife is the key to a thriving family."
I playfully poked his forehead, amused that the once serious Mr. Blake had become so smooth-talking.
But the Blake Corporation's business was indeed flourishing.
Vincent was even more pleased, openly establishing my reputation as his "lucky charm" in front of everyone.
Only I knew this success came from his years of hard work.
A few months later, I gave birth to our daughter.
Vincent immediately transformed into a super dad, spending his days around us.
He even took over the housekeepers' duties, insisting on soothing our daughter to sleep every night, then going to work the next morning with tired eyes.
Looking at the dark circles under his eyes, I couldn't help but smile.
Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, our daughter turned three.
On a rare leisurely afternoon, Vincent and I took our daughter to a nearby park.
In the garden, our daughter chased a butterfly and bumped into someone in a wheelchair.
The person steadied her gently.
I hurried over to apologize.
Looking up, I saw a familiar face.
"Jonah?"
His face was pale, his frame thin, and even simple casual clothes hung loosely on him.
He seemed a bit dazed: "Madison, you have a child now?"
I nodded: "When did you wake up?"
"I've been awake for some time, but I didn't have the courage to face you."
Noticing my gaze on his wheelchair, he didn't hide anything and spoke softly:
"Though I've awakened, I'll never be able to stand again for the rest of my life."
I felt a wave of sympathy.
Who could have imagined that the once imperious young heir of the Blake family would end up in such a state?
I spoke slowly: "Regardless, thank you for saving me that day."
He smiled bitterly and waved his hand lightly.
"If I hadn't pursued Lily, if I hadn't repeatedly indulged her, you wouldn't have been in danger."
"This is the karma I created, and I deserve to pay for it."
Vincent walked over at that moment, picked up our daughter, and stood silently beside me, as if asserting his position.
Seeing our family of three together, Jonah's eyes dimmed.
"Madison, I never properly apologized to you. All these years, I've wronged you."
"Only after losing you did I realize how precious you were."
"My uncle... he's very fortunate to have you."
I gently placed my hand on Vincent's arm.
"Meeting your uncle was my fortune too."
Jonah was momentarily stunned, then nodded slightly: "Madison, seeing you happy fulfills my final wish."
He turned his wheelchair with difficulty and left.
Our daughter, not understanding the situation, touched Vincent's face.
"Daddy seems angry!"
Seeing Vincent's puffed-up expression, I said with a smile: "Your daddy isn't angry; he's jealous!"
Our three-year-old didn't understand the meaning of "jealous," but she clapped her hands and laughed.
"Daddy's jealous!"
Vincent put our daughter down, his face slightly red: "Don't listen to your mother's nonsense. Am I such a petty person? I don't get jealous over nothing."
Vincent took our daughter's hand with one hand and mine with the other.
"Let's go home."
As the sun set, we walked hand in hand toward a happy future.
