Claire laughed coldly. "Melody? So intimate with her name. She's Jackson's wife now!"
Nathan hung up the phone. Before Claire could react, he slapped her hard across the face.
She looked at him in disbelief. "You hit me? Nathan, you actually hit me? Have you lost your mind?!"
Nathan's hand moved to her throat, his tone deceptively calm. "I'll ask you one last time: where is Melody?"
Claire suddenly laughed, spitting blood. "Don't tell me you've fallen in love with her?"
She stared directly at Nathan. "You only liked her because of me. Now that I'm back, why are you still obsessed with her? Don't tell me you've fooled yourself with your own act, Nathan!"
"Fine. Very well." Nathan smiled, dropping her on the warehouse floor.
"Get the truth about the PDF from Louie. I'm going to find Melody. Send me the results when you get them. Do whatever you want with these two."
After instructing Edward, Nathan rushed out.
Edward was not only Nathan's assistant but also his enforcer. When Nathan rebuilt his empire in the New York through various gray-market operations, Edward's help had been indispensable.
Shortly after leaving, Nathan received an audio recording from Edward. He played it—it was Louie's voice.
It revealed that after the Gray company's bankruptcy and Claire's breakup with Nathan, Melody, unable to watch Nathan sink into depression, had sought out Claire, begging her not to leave him.
"Fine," Claire had said. "For every person you entertain at these parties, I'll stay one more day."
But Claire never intended to stay. She simply wanted to see how far Melody would go for Nathan.
"You really are Nathan's loyal dog," Claire had mocked the intoxicated Melody. "Take the photos."
So that was it! Now everything made sense!
"You know what needs to be done," Nathan texted back.
"Yes, sir," Edward replied. In the background, Claire's screams could be heard, but Nathan hung up, finding the noise irritating.
Nathan found himself back at the same place—the flower shop, now closed.
He thought about the two bouquets from before, neither of which he had given away. He deeply regretted how he had treated Melody. Emma was right—it would have been better if Melody had never met him, never been with him. Then she wouldn't have suffered so much pain.
What he owed Melody could never be repaid in this lifetime.
Meanwhile, Jackson had tracked Melody's phone signal to her exact location. The kidnappers, having received no further instructions from Claire, had remained in place, giving Jackson ample time to bring reinforcements.
The warehouse doors were broken down by police, and the criminals quickly subdued. Jackson rushed to Melody's side, lifting her unconscious form. Sensing movement, she awakened to see Jackson's worried face and immediately reassured him, "It's okay, I'm safe now..."
Despite being the kidnapping victim, she was comforting him. Jackson held her tighter. "I'm sorry. Never again—I won't let you out of my sight again..."
"You were right," Jackson suddenly said. "I am incredibly lucky not to have lost you."
Melody gazed at the man who had been anxious for her since the moment he saw her—even now, his hands trembled as he held her.
She hugged him back.
Jackson said, "Let's leave this place. Can we go somewhere with no one else around? I don't want to lose you again."
Melody looked at Jackson, who had been frantic since finding her, his hands still trembling even as he held her in his arms.
"Yes, let's leave. I don't want any connection to that person ever again."
Meanwhile, Nathan tried calling Jackson for an update, but the call wouldn't connect. As he tried again, he glimpsed someone crossing the road ahead. He swerved to avoid them, but the brakes failed, sending his car crashed into a utility pole.
When Nathan woke up again, the news he received was that Melody and Jackson were going abroad to complete their unfinished honeymoon.
Watching the two of them being affectionate, Nathan knew he had truly lost Melody.
She would never come back to him.
