The crowds roar is deafening as I stand there, my chest heaving and my heart pounding. The last play of the season. My eyes flick over to the score-board. We've won. I've won. And, there's only one person on my mind.
The moment I see her, everything else dims. She's sitting in the stands with my parents, my sister Layton and my nephew Blake, their faces lit up with joy for me. Devyn Pierce, Mrs Pierce. My wife. She's smiling, her eyes locked on me, and in this moment, I know I'll never take her for granted.
I toss my helmet aside without a second thought, already running towards her with my body on autopilot, my heart racing faster than the adrenaline still pumping through me. The cheers of the crowd are nothing more than a distant hum as I close the space between us.
Devyn stands now, her eyes wide as I climb up on to the bars of the stand separating us, and when her hands find my face and my lips find hers, there's no stadium, no screaming fans. Just us. She cups my face as I lean up and kiss her, slow and hard. I want her to feel everything-how much she means to me, how much this moment is ours.
The crowd's cheers grow louder, but all I can hear is her soft, breathless laugh that escapes as she pulls away. Her smile is everything I'll ever need.
"You did it," Devyn whispers, pressing her forehead to mine despite how dirty I am.
My nose brushes hers. "We did it, baby."
"I love you, Luis Pierce," she tells me quietly, her voice filled with emotion and her smile bright enough to light up a room.
"I love you, Devyn Pierce."
And then her fingers grip my jersey, pulling me back in for another kiss, and I remember that none of this would matter without her. I've won more than just the game.
