No sooner had Noah stepped inside than he eagerly called out to the dining room, "Grandma! Mom! Uncle Elias! Guess why we're back so soon?"
Noah's excited, gossipy demeanor clearly showed he hadn't suffered any humiliation at the Barnes family.
Seeing this, Gwen got the picture.
Gwen called over warmly, "Rini, come join us. Let's chat while we eat."
"Okay," Irene replied warmly.
Noah plopped down next to Irene, gulped down some water to clear his throat, then eagerly launched into his vivid account.
He grinned excitedly and said, "Man, what happened in the Barnes family was absolutely wild..."
Thanks to his sharp memory, Noah gave a vivid play-by-play, even doing a spot-on impression of Jeremy as he repeated, word for word, all the insults Jeremy had hurled at Mike.
The whole Jackson family just stared, completely stunned.
"No way!" Maisie gasped, her face full of disbelief. "Did Jeremy really curse out Mike like that?"
Noah insisted, "It's absolutely true! Irene and Austin were right there—if you don't believe me, just ask them!"
All eyes in the room turned to Irene and Austin.
Irene gave a slight nod. "He did say those exact words."
A collective gasp rippled through the Jackson family.
'Wow, the head of the Tucker family really has some nerve, huh?'
Maisie clicked her tongue in amazement and said, "Man, Jeremy really is a real tyrant!"
Oliver suddenly slapped his knee in frustration and grumbled, "If I'd known things would be so eventful at the Barnes family today, I should've gone with Rini and the boys!"
Gwen shot a warning look at her second son, Oliver.
Oliver quickly composed himself, adopting an exaggeratedly solemn demeanor befitting a respected elder.
Elias's brow furrowed slightly as a thought struck him.
He hesitated and said, "Technically speaking, what happened today was a feud between the Tucker and Barnes families. But today was supposed to be Rini's official visit to the Barnes family."
Elias said worriedly, "If Dorian's father survives the hospital, well and good. But if not..."
Elias glanced worriedly at his mother and said, "You know how wealthy families are always full of drama and superstition. I'm afraid someone might stir up trouble and spread malicious rumors to tarnish Rini's reputation."
Irene had barely set foot in the Barnes family when—bam! Mike dropped dead.
He was just worried someone might maliciously pin the blame on Irene, accusing her of jinxing her future father-in-law to death.
Irene couldn't care less, but the rest of the Jackson family members were quite concerned.
Maisie slammed her fork down and snapped, "Let's see who dares! If anyone says a word, I'll tear their mouths up!"
Nevaeh handed Maisie a cup of coffee and said gently, "Calm down, Maisie."
Although Nevaeh appeared frail, the moment she spoke, her voice had a remarkable power to soothe.
Maisie took a defiant gulp of her coffee, radiating the air of a warrior ready for battle—but at least she finally shut up.
Nevaeh turned to her eldest son. "Austin, you know the attorney from the Webb family, don't you?"
Austin nodded. "Yeah, I do."
Nevaeh said gently but with resolve, "If anyone dares to spread malicious rumors and tarnish Irene's reputation, just contact the attorney from the Webb family. We'll take the most influential rumor-monger straight to court."
"Make an example of one, and all those troublemaking rumor-mongers will quickly fall in line," Nevaeh said, her tone gentle yet firm.
"Sure, Mom. I'll do as you say," Austin agreed, genuinely thinking her idea was pretty solid.
Sometimes, they just had to play hardball.
Irene wasn't particularly close to Nevaeh. In her memory, Nevaeh had always appeared frail and sickly.
Hearing Nevaeh come up with such a decisive plan, Irene felt as if a delicate lady had suddenly become the scheming heroine of a court intrigue novel—the contrast was truly jarring.
Maisie flushed with embarrassment as she watched Nevaeh effortlessly come up with a solution, realizing just how dramatic her own outburst had been in comparison.
Gwen shot an amused look at Maisie and teased, "Still planning to tear their mouths up?"
Maisie's face turned beet red, but she remained stubborn as a mule. "If I run into them, I'll still let them have a piece of me!"
"You're such a spitfire," Gwen shook her head in amusement.
Gwen turned to Irene with a smile and said, "That's Maisie. She's feisty, but she's got a heart of gold."
Irene had to admit that she really liked Maisie and Nevaeh's personalities.
Irene smiled and said, "Maisie, you're both brave and resourceful. Next time I need someone to back me up or make a strong impression, I'll be counting on you.
"Nevaeh, you may be reserved, but you're exceptionally astute. Whenever I run into tricky problems in the future, I'll turn to you for advice."
Hearing this, both Maisie and Nevaeh broke into smiles.
They thought, 'Shelby is such a fool.
'Such a wonderful daughter like Irene, and yet Shelby doesn't cherish her. We will make sure Irene gets all the love she deserves!'
