Henry snapped, "Lucas, cut the crap. Your mom cheats on me, but you side with her."
He didn't expect Lucas to be so unreasonable though he knew all the time that Lucas was a poor student.
Henry snatched his cup from the nightstand and hurled it at Lucas. "You brat, you care about nothing but money. Get lost!"
Covering his head with both hands, Lucas ducked the cup while yelling with a mix of anger and shame, "Henry Jackson, how dare you hit your only son!
"I won't spare you one glance when you are old and sick. Neither Irene nor I will take care of you! Even Grandma doesn't give a damn about you. Just stay here and die!"
Henry shouted, "You jerk!" Suddenly, he saw stars and stiffly toppled to the floor from his bed.
He passed out because of his wife's infidelity and his son's sarcasm.
Instantly, fear got Lucas, and his eyes became wide open. Perplexed, he thought, "Is Dad dead? Will I be sentenced to jail?"
"Help..." Henry regained his consciousness but was too weak to move. His finger feebly tapped the floor as he mumbled, "Help... Doctor..."
Lucas shifted his gaze between the emergency button above the nightstand and his struggling father. He then decided to run away.
He stopped in his tracks at the thought that he would be innocent if Henry died. "He was rushed to the hospital because of Grandma's violence," he thought.
Calming down, he ran back to the ward, pressed the emergency button, and then ran away without one glance at his father.
Lying on the floor, Henry watched the heartless Lucas flee. At that moment, he understood his mother's disappointment in him.
Back in the hotel, Lucas idled away the whole afternoon.
Night fell. Lucas was enjoying his dinner when a message came from an unknown number.
[Lucas, isn't she your sister?]
Lucas checked the message and saw a photo attached to it.
In the photo, a black SUV stopped in the open air, and Irene, scantily clad, sat in the arms of a man and buried her face on his neck.
Lucas had met Dorian, so he could tell at one glance that the man in the car wasn't Dorian.
"Irene cheats on Dorian. She is screwing in the back seat with another man. Shame on her!" Lucas thought.
Excited, he quickly replied, [Who are you?]
[I am your schoolmate in the classroom next to yours, Derek Hacker. Ring your sister right away and tell her to behave herself. Her reputation will be ruined if others take a photo like this.]
"Derek Hacker? Is there such a student in my grade?" Lucas wondered.
He was new to the middle school, so he knew little about his classmates. "Maybe," he thought to himself.
He rolled his eyes and then sent out another message. [Where is she?]
Derek: [Near Silvergrove Park. My uncle and I are fishing in the park. I ran into her.]
"Perfect!" Lucas thought excitedly. He forgot his dinner and hurried out of the hotel with his jacket.
It would take more than an hour to get to Silvergrove Park from the hotel.
Lucas was afraid that it would be too late for him to catch Irene in the act. In a cab, he found a local paparazzo via Facebook and contacted the latter.
Lucas: [Hey! I have some juicy gossip about Dorian Barnes' girlfriend. Interested?]
The paparazzo sent a smiling face and a message as his reply. [Go on.]
Lucas: [Irene cheats on Dorian. She is having sex with another man in a black SUV somewhere. You may get some good videos if you hurry over.]
Lucas: [Dorian will be cooperative if you ask him for hush money in exchange for your videos. People like him care about their reputation.]
Lucas: [What do you say if I claim 20% of the hush money?] Lucas had a good plan in his mind.
He let the paparazzo ask Dorian for the hush money and would later ruin Irene by spreading the videos.
Three minutes later, the paparazzo sent a meme of a handshake. Lucas quickly shared Irene's location with the paparazzo.
He then turned off his phone, and a sinister smile appeared on his young face. "Irene, you beat me and sent my mom to jail. I will teach you a good lesson tonight," he thought.
It was 10 p.m, and there was a black SUV in Silvergrove Park.
In the passenger seat, Melody in an oversized men's T-shirt had a cap on her head and a cigarette between her lips. She chatted with Irene, who leaned against her shoulder.
"Will that brat come?" Melody asked.
Irene responded, "It depends."
"Tsk, your family does impress me. By the way, why did the Tucker family know about that issue with the male model?"
On the topic of that incident, Melody still had a lingering fear. "You know what, I was freaked out when Jeremy's call came."
She could have been calmer if the call had come from the police station.
Irene was fretted at the mention of that incident. "Damn!" She patted her head.
"What's wrong?" Melody became confused.
Irene straightened her back and reached for her laptop in the backseat. "I forgot my homework."
"What?" Melody thought that she must have misheard. What homework? Hadn't Irene graduated from university?
"It's a long story." Irene was too ashamed to share the story with Melody.
Irene turned on her laptop and began to write. After one cigarette, Melody leaned over to satisfy her curiosity.
Then, she was stunned by the title Irene had written. "How to protect against HIV infection? What the hell is it?"
Irene grumbled, "Because of that text message, Jeremy deliberately arranged a lecture about HIV infection for me the next day.
"I was forced to hear that professor out. Now, I will have to write down my thoughts, and it should contain more than one thousand words. Don't you think that Jeremy is a weirdo?"
To Irene, Jeremy was quite weird and particular. Melody felt speechless.
Watching Irene write her homework, Melody suddenly commented, "He is quite protective of you."
"I beg your pardon?" Irene asked, "Who?"
"Jeremy."
Hearing this, Irene rolled her eyes.
"I'm serious." Melody gave her objective analysis. "Look, he is Dorian's uncle, so he will be your uncle-in-law. None of the elders will be happy with that text message.
"Jeremy was supposed to get you exposed by showing Dorian that message, but what did he do?"
Melody shook her head and went on, "He didn't. He took you to listen to the lecture about HIV infection. How thoughtful! Isn't he protective of you?"
Honestly, Jeremy's attitude was pretty suspicious.
"Perhaps..." Irene boasted shamelessly, "Because I'm good-looking and agreeable, he is tolerant of me."
"Bullshit." Melody sneered. "The elders don't like coquettish women like you. Why didn't you say that Jeremy likes you?" She joked.
Jeremy would soon die, and there was nothing female around him. Therefore, it was absurd to say that he liked Irene.
However, Melody loved spectacles and chaos.
