Hearing this, Darnell flared up. He pulled over and cursed through his gritted teeth, "What a jerk! Ruth, I can have your back though I am old.
"Where is he? Let's confront him, and I will give him a good beating. Let's go buy the air tickets now."
Darnell's speech warmed and moved Ruth. In her bitter life, she finally got a strong supporter. "Calm down. That jerk died more than a decade ago, and he must be rotten now."
Furious, Darnell suggested, "Where is his grave? I will go dig his grave." He had saved a lot of people throughout his life, and he didn't mind going to hell for digging a jerk's grave.
Amused, Ruth burst out laughing. "No doubt you are my brother. We share the same mind."
Ruth shook her head and added, "Forget the jerk. It is said that he died after years of illness. Come on. Let's go to your place now."
Darnell lived in an alley not far away from Aurelith University, and his house was large. He parked his car in the alley.
Ruth didn't ask till she got out of the car. "Do you have any kids?"
"I have a daughter named Bliss Patterson. She will get married soon. She will move to where her husband is. Now, she lives in Koritak."
"Quite far away from here."
Darnell was reasonable. "I can't keep the kid by my side all the time. Well, her husband was a reliable man. By the way, Bliss has a social phobia. I am glad that she could find herself a soulmate."
"A social phobia?" Ruth repeated. "Pathologic or psychological?"
Some patients were born with a social phobia, while others fell ill after traumas. For the latter, timely and professional treatments could help.
Daniel sighed. "Bliss suffered from bullying and racial discrimination when she studied abroad. She was locked in a car and then pushed into a lake...
"Her mother and I were busy with work, so we seldom visited her. When we found the problem, it was already too late."
"By the way," Daniel added, "my son-in-law was the man who helped Bliss out."
"I see," Ruth murmured.
Back at home, Darnell quickly found the photo album and showed it to Ruth. Hungry, he blurted out, "I miss the noodles Dad made."
Hearing this, Ruth rolled up her sleeves and marched straight into the kitchen. She learned cooking from Daniel, so her food tasted the same as his.
After decades of years, Darnell finally ate the food in his memory, so his eyes brimmed with tears. "Ruth."
Tears fell from his eyes onto his plate. "Let's stick around, so we will die without regret. Let's gather the younger generation together. Dad will be happy with the reunion of his offspring."
The elderly were family ties. Ruth nodded. "Sure thing." She then came up with an idea. "Let's take a photo together and send it to my granddaughter."
"Not a bad idea. I will send it to Bliss. Use your phone." For security reasons, Darnell could do nothing with his phone but ring others and send text messages.
Ruth put her phone on the coffee table, sat next to Darnell, and put her hands on her knees. After the photo was taken, Ruth sent it to Irene.
Irene used the business card of her studio as the profile photo on WhatsApp. After one glance at Ruth's phone, Darnell asked, "Do you have any photos of my granddaughter in your phone?"
Ruth was about to introduce Darnell to Irene, but got interrupted. Soon, she forgot that.
"Yes, wait a sec," she said. She then found Irene's photos and showed them to Darnell.
"Oh, she is pretty. Wait, she looks a bit like Bliss."
"Does she?" Ruth flipped through the photo album, found Bliss' photo, and compared it with Irene's.
Irene and Bliss did share something in common. It was easy to tell that they were related.
Ruth and Darnell chatted on and on. They didn't go to bed till it was dawn.
It was early in the morning. Irene was woken up by her alarm. Sleepy, she checked her phone and saw the message sent by Ruth at 3 a.m.
The photo of Ruth and Darnell sitting on the sofa came into view.
Both Ruth and Darnell looked happy, so their photo looked like a wedding one. Instantly, Irene snapped awake.
She thought, "Damn! Grandma found herself a boyfriend during her trip to Viremont City and even moved into his place within a few days."
