"Wait, is Jeremy going to dine with me?" Irene thought. Prudent, she asked, "Jeremy, what do you prefer?"
Jeremy replied, "Nothing."
Thinking that Jeremy's taste buds had degenerated from sickness, Irene made a bold decision.
She suggested, "My apartment is not far away from here, and my grandma is at home. Would you like to dine at my place?
"I remember that you are still sensitive to sourness. My grandma is a good cook, so she may help."
Jeremy asked, "The pickled radish you mentioned?" Irene nodded.
Then, Jeremy asked, "Is it a good idea to trouble your grandma?"
"She is hospitable," Irene responded.
Jeremy gazed at Irene for quite a while before he said, "Let's go then."
Irene led the way. On the way, she called Ruth and alerted Ruth of her invitation and the visit of her friend. Aiden closely followed Irene's car.
After a glance at Jeremy who had his eyes closed for a rest, Aiden asked, "Mr. Tucker, what do you say of a gift for our first visit to Miss Jackson's place? There is a high-end supermarket not far away."
Jeremy opened his eyes and shot Aiden an approving glance. "Go there then."
Two minutes later, Irene found that there was no sight of Jeremy's car.
Irene: [Jeremy, where are you?]
Jeremy: [Aiden needs some cigarettes.]
Irene thought, "Jeremy doesn't smoke. At least, I never see him smoke. As for Aiden, I don't think that he smokes at work."
Sensible, she didn't stop Jeremy from buying a gift. Instead, she kindly gave her advice.
Irene: [Grandma isn't interested in supplements. She likes wine.]
When the message came, Jeremy was standing before the shelves full of supplements. There were several ones in the trolley.
Jeremy quickly said to Aiden, "Keep one box and put the rest back on the shelves."
Aiden hesitated for a moment. "Is that enough?"
Jeremy explained, "Irene mentioned that her grandma is quite the drinker."
Aiden looked surprised. "I see. The wine is over there. Please come with me, Mr. Tucker."
Ten minutes later, Jeremy paid the bill and got back in the car with Aiden. Irene sent Jeremy her address on WhatsApp.
Irene waited at the gate of her neighbourhood. At the sight of Jeremy's car, she gave the janitor a few instructions. Then, Aiden drove the car into the neighborhood.
He parked the car, carried the gifts, and walked to Irene's apartment with Jeremy. Out of habit, he kept looking around.
As Irene opened the door with her fingerprint, Jeremy subconsciously straightened his tie and sleeves.
Jeremy's petty action amused Aiden. The door was opened, and Irene called, "Grandma, I am home!"
Then, Jeremy saw a gray-haired lady in an apron coming from the kitchen.
At the sight of the perfect match at the doorway, Ruth was surprised.
"Oh!" Ruth stared at Jeremy's handsome face for two seconds and then complimented, "How handsome!"
To be honest, she was a lookist. Back then, she agreed to marry Liam just because he was the most handsome man in that district.
Her previous requirements for a good husband included a good brain, a good appearance, and a good body.
Liam perfectly met her requirements, but he was ambitious and heartless.
Ruth then learned her lesson that it required more than a good appearance to be a good husband.
However, she would choose a man with a good appearance as her husband if she were given another chance.
If a man couldn't stay true to his wife forever, Ruth would like to curse a handsome jerk in her memory instead of an ugly one.
Ruth put on airs and asked, "Rini, is he your friend? I didn't hear you talk about him."
Irene instantly saw through Ruth. She knew that Ruth was quite satisfied with Jeremy's appearance.
Back in the village, Ruth was generous to the handsome patient and rigorous with the ugly one.
If the patient was as handsome as Jeremy, Ruth wouldn't mind treating him for free.
"Grandma," Irene cleared her throat and did the introduction. "This is Mr. Tucker, Dorian's uncle."
Instantly, Jeremy was less attractive to Ruth. "Oh." Ruth wiped her hands on her apron and ducked into the kitchen.
Jeremy was completely baffled by Ruth's sudden change in attitude.
"The smiling lady has hatred in her eyes in the blink of an eye. Why?" Jeremy wondered.
Irene let Jeremy sit down. She excused herself for a word with Ruth in the kitchen and then briefed the complicated story about Jeremy and the Barnes family.
On the news that Jeremy was different from the Barnes family, Ruth had a happy smile on her face again. "So, he is ignorant of the bad things Dorian did."
Irene said firmly, "You are right."
Jeremy was neither a saint nor a villain. He wouldn't give his family business to Dorian if he knew that Dorian was such a jerk.
"Great." Speaking, Ruth put the ingredients into the pot. "I was tempted to add some laxative to the porridge."
After one bowl of porridge, Jeremy would be rushed to the hospital.
"Grandma, I know you well. You talk tough, but never will you hurt others," Irene said.
As a doctor, Ruth had her brief, but...
"The Barnes family is a different case." Ruth pulled a long face and added seriously, "They went too far, so I don't mind putting up a desperate fight."
In other words, the laxative was just a little trick to her.
Moved, Irene embraced Ruth from behind and pressed her cheek against Ruth's back as she had in childhood. "You're the best, Grandma!"
Sitting in the living room, Jeremy tilted his head and saw what was happening in the kitchen. After Irene embraced Ruth from behind, Jeremy lowered his gaze and was lost in thought.
Soon, the porridge was ready. Ruth served the dishes and then beckoned to Jeremy and Aiden. "Mr. Tucker and Mr. Bell, come, the food is ready."
Aiden felt flattered. He hurried over, helped set the table, and said, "Call me Aiden if you like. You are about the age of my mother."
"Aiden." Ruth was open to advice. She then turned to Jeremy. Before she opened her mouth, Jeremy humbly said, "Please call me Jeremy."
