The father and son went to Gwen's bedroom and laid out, in full detail, everything Shelby had done to Irene.
Gwen was furious when she heard it.
But she quickly regained her composure and said calmly, "Shelby has no conscience. Irene is her own daughter, and even she wasn't spared. Now think about it—if something ever happened to our family, what do you think she'd do?"
Oliver didn't respond. He was too ashamed of Shelby's behavior.
Grinding his teeth, Noah said, "She'd definitely take whatever she could and run."
It was a brutally accurate assessment—Shelby was as heartless as they come.
Gwen nodded, frowning. "She's ruthless. If we let her stay in the Jackson family, it's only a matter of time before she causes real damage.
"She wouldn't have dared scheme so boldly against Irene if Henry hadn't enabled her. But let's be honest—people who share a bed tend to share the same nature. Neither of them is any good."
Without hesitation, Gwen declared, "Tomorrow, we're going to the police station to have them removed from the household."
The Jackson family was a big, traditional household that had never been formally split.
Removing Henry and Shelby from the family wouldn't legally strip him of his inheritance rights—but it made one thing crystal clear: they were no longer part of the inner circle.
From now on, wherever they went or whatever they did, they wouldn't be able to trade on the Jackson family name.
"Mom… isn't that a bit too harsh?" Oliver asked cautiously. He thought the decision seemed a little too severe.
Gwen gave him a long, unreadable look—not exactly disappointed, but not quite pleased either.
"Oliver, you're a good son, a good brother, and a steady presence in the family. But I still can't entrust the future of the Jackson family to you."
Oliver's face flushed with shame.
The head of a family needed both compassion and the strength to make tough calls.
And that was exactly what he lacked.
Gwen continued thoughtfully, "All our children are talented, but the only one truly suited to lead this family is Austin.
"But that boy stands out too much. It's not just us who admire him—the state values him, and Darnell thinks the world of him.
"His gifts are meant for the country, to serve the people. We can't tie him down with family affairs."
Oliver rubbed his temples. "Mom, if you put it that way, then doesn't that leave only Lucas?"
At the mention of that name, Noah let out a snort of contempt.
Gwen's face twisted with disgust. "Hand the family over to him? We'd be ruined in no time. That boy's a lost cause."
Out of all her grandchildren, Gwen held the lowest opinion of Lucas.
With parents like Henry and Shelby, it was no surprise he turned out the way he did—spoiled and rotten to the core.
"Then I guess that just leaves Irene," Oliver said offhandedly.
As soon as the words left his mouth, he noticed his mother didn't shoot him down. Instead, she looked at him intently, and his jaw dropped.
"Mom… you're seriously thinking of making Irene the head of the family?"
Noah looked equally shocked. "Grandma, you really think Irene can handle it?"
All Gwen said was, "Let's wait and see."
The father and son exchanged a look—clearly, neither had expected Gwen to place such high hopes in Irene.
The next morning, the Eldraeth City Morning News ran a story: Henry and Shelby had been officially removed from the Jackson family.
Irene heard the news from Anthony.
His comment? "Your biological parents may be a pair of idiots—but your family knows what's what."
"Hardly anyone announces things through the newspaper these days," Anthony said. "The Jackson family doing it like this? They're clearly making a public statement—they want nothing to do with Henry and Shelby.
