Dorian broke into a cold sweat. His voice wavered as he asked, "Why would you say something like that?"
Irene didn't even blink. "Don't you ever go online? These days, the hottest plotlines are all about surrogate pregnancies, fake identities, swapped marriages—and don't forget organ harvesting."
She caught every flicker of panic in his expression and found it laughable.
'So even scumbags have their moments of fear,' she thought.
Only then did Dorian realize—Irene hadn't discovered anything about Amaris.
She was just messing with him.
But because he had something to hide, he panicked far too easily.
"There's no lover," he said, shaking his head. "You're my first love."
Not wanting to linger on the subject, he smoothly changed the topic. "When's your next day off? I want to take you home for dinner. My dad's been asking to meet you. Would you be okay with that?"
Irene had already met Jeremy, but she'd never been officially introduced to the Barnes family.
Dorian pulled her into his arms and smiled. "You know, I've never brought a girl home for dinner before."
Going to the Barnes family for a family meal—it meant she was being acknowledged.
Clearly, Dorian was trying to win her trust and calm her doubts.
"Give it a few days," Irene said. "I need to handle things with Shelby first. After that, I'll come with you."
"What are you planning to do with Shelby?" he asked, his tone casual but loaded. "Whatever you want, I can help make it happen."
It was an offer—and a hint. He could help send Shelby to prison.
That way, Irene would completely sever ties with the Jackson family, leaving her isolated.
And then, Dorian could make his move—undisturbed. Irene saw right through it.
She smiled and nodded. "If I need help, I'll come to you."
"I'm heading back now. Goodnight, Dorian!" she said, cheeks flushed as she ran off.
Dorian's heart was pounding like crazy. It felt like he'd been tossed into a vat of boiling oil, then thrown down a slope lined with blades.
At this rate, he was going to give himself a heart attack.
Back at her apartment, Irene messaged Elias on WhatsApp, asking for Mathew's contact info.
Without asking any questions, he sent her Mathew's profile right away.
She added Mathew and got straight to the point. Irene: [Mathew, it's Irene. Could you connect me with a trustworthy lawyer? I'm meeting with Shelby tomorrow.]
Mathew had already heard about the awful things Shelby had done to Irene.
Aspiring to become a prosecutor himself, he despised what Henry and Shelby had done. He fully supported Irene's decision to cut ties.
He responded quickly. Mathew: [Give me a second. I'll send you her contact.]
A moment later, he forwarded her a WhatsApp contact. Mathew: [She's my senior from law school. Her name's Kelly. She's from the Webb family and she's amazing.]
Irene was genuinely surprised. She hadn't expected Mathew to be so straightforward—let alone recommend someone from a powerhouse like the Webb family.
After thanking him, she added Kelly, and the two of them spent the night finalizing their plan.
At the crack of dawn the next day, Irene drove to the detention center.
Kelly was already there, sitting in her car, reviewing files on her laptop. When she heard Irene's car pull up, she got out and waved.
"Hi, I'm Kelly," she said with a cool, professional tone. Her features were sharp and elegant, her figure lean and balanced—except for her chest, which was… shockingly full.
It was the kind of full that made you do a double take.
Irene sneaked a quick glance, then instinctively looked down at her own modest B-cup and sighed quietly.
Noticing the look, Kelly gave a small, amused smile. "Don't envy them—they're implants."
"Seriously?" Irene blinked.
There was a beat of silence before she asked, with genuine curiosity, "Which hospital?" They looked real—moved naturally too. Not stiff or awkward at all.
Kelly casually mentioned the hospital name, then looked Irene over with a discerning eye. "Your shape's actually really nice—just the right size to hold in one hand. That's ideal."
