Her phone buzzed in her hand, snapping Irene out of her thoughts.
Dorian sent Irene the address of a luxury boutique via WhatsApp.
Following that was a text message. [After work, I'll take you to try the new arrivals.]
The Barnes family, an illustrious aristocratic household, maintains numerous strict traditions—especially regarding women's formal attire at family banquets.
Mini skirts that exposed the knees were strictly forbidden in the Barnes family, as Dorian's father considered legs to be private body parts.
Irene: [Sure! By the way, Grandma's here at the studio with me. How about we all have dinner together tonight?]
Dorian: [I'll handle the arrangements. Let's try on the outfits tomorrow evening instead.]
As the workday drew to a close, Dorian's driver arrived early at the studio to pick up Irene and Ruth.
The driver said, "Miss Jackson, Mr. Barnes has been unexpectedly detained and won't be able to pick you and Ms. Patterson up personally. I'll drive you both to the restaurant first, and Mr. Barnes will join you shortly."
"Thank you," Irene said politely.
Irene helped Ruth into the car, and the driver drove them to an exclusive private restaurant.
The private restaurant was tucked away behind a towering skyscraper.
The main entrance looked rather unassuming, with flowers on each side. Above the door, a plaque exquisitely displayed two eye-catching characters—Savor Time.
Irene was so engrossed in the two characters that she didn't even notice when Dorian approached.
As the weather grew warmer, Dorian casually draped his suit jacket over his arm, his shirt sleeves rolled up to reveal toned forearms—and on his wrist was a watch that could easily buy a house.
"Ruth, how are you?"
After greeting Ruth, Dorian noticed Irene's fascination with the characters on the plaque and explained with pride, "These characters were created by the young master calligrapher known as Night Wanderer."
Dorian glanced at Irene and, with a hint of pride, asked, "Ever heard of the Night Wanderer?"
"Nope, but this work is truly masterful," Irene said, studying the bold strokes. "It shows both disciplined strength and wild, untamed energy."
From the calligraphy alone, Irene could vaguely picture what the Night Wanderer might look like.
'This Night Wanderer must be someone with unyielding pride and an untamed spirit,' Irene thought.
Seeing that Dorian seemed to recognize the Night Wanderer, Irene asked curiously, "You know the Night Wanderer personally?"
Dorian replied cryptically with a smug smile, "Not only do I know him—you do too. Care to take a wild guess?"
'I know him?' Irene wondered, surprised.
Irene asked, "How old is Night Wanderer?"
Dorian replied with a smile, "He's only a few years older than us—quite young, actually."
'Wait... he's really that young?' Irene thought, surprised.
Suddenly, a pair of frosty, distant eyes flashed through Irene's mind, making her heart skip a beat.
Irene bit her lip hesitantly before asking, "Wait, don't tell me... it's your Uncle Jeremy?"
Dorian looked genuinely surprised, nodding with a teasing smile. "Spot on. Aren't you a clever one?"
'I was just taking a wild guess,' Irene thought, amazed at her own blind luck in getting it right.
"Although Uncle Jeremy never joined the official Calligraphy Association, he's always been a living legend in the world of calligraphy.
"As a teenager, he was already a prodigy in national youth calligraphy competitions, mastering the classic style like no other. He was hailed as the successor to this prestigious tradition and highly respected by young calligraphers.
"At age twenty-three, his secret was accidentally revealed—he was the mysterious master painter known as the Night Wanderer. Overnight, he shot to fame.
"But the Night Wanderer had already been renowned for a full decade before that revelation."
In other words, at just thirteen years old, Jeremy's oil paintings had already won the recognition of the entire art circle—a truly astonishing feat.
That was just unbelievable!
Irene thought for a moment and said, "Your Uncle Jeremy is truly remarkable! Back then, there must have been so many people eager to meet him."
Dorian summed up the scene with one vivid phrase. "Back then, people practically wore down the Tucker family's doorstep trying to meet Uncle Jeremy."
That must have been quite the scene!
Irene said, "They say every profession produces its own masters, but your Uncle Jeremy? He masters everything he touches. Seriously, his genes are just off the charts!"
Dorian, who was blindly in awe of Jeremy, sighed, "He has such good genes—he really should've fathered more children. It's a pity his health keeps getting worse. He may never have any at all."
Irene thought to herself, 'Don't worry. I'll do my best to have an adorable baby with your Uncle Jeremy soon.'
'I hope you won't regret saying that when the time comes, Dorian,' Irene thought to herself with quiet amusement.
Dorian said casually, "Alright, let's go inside with Ruth and continue our chat."
With utmost care, Dorian guided Ruth by the arm as they entered the restaurant.
The restaurant had a simple yet elegant decor. Its courtyard was paved with flagstones, dotted with a few coffee tables, and in the southeast corner stood a flourishing pomegranate tree.
