Irene explained softly, "I'm just here to take care of something, Aiden."
She thought, 'Aiden is here... Does that mean Jeremy is too?'
As if to confirm Irene's suspicion, Jeremy's voice indeed came from the private room. "Irene?"
She guessed there was no escaping this now.
Briefcase in hand, Irene walked to the private room at the end of the corridor. Standing respectfully outside the door, she called out, "Mr. Tucker."
Jeremy's polished shoes stepped into Irene's shadow as he approached, his presence looming over her.
A cool, woody fragrance enveloped Irene, its presence almost suffocating.
He asked, "Are you busy this afternoon?"
When Jeremy asked, she had to say she was free—even if she had plans.
"Just some minor work errands, Mr. Tucker. Did you have something in mind for me?"
"Free this afternoon? Come with me somewhere," Jeremy said. With that, he instructed Aiden to take Irene to the lounge to wait for him.
As soon as Jeremy returned to the private room and sat down, Kelly looked over and asked with a teasing smile, "Mr. Tucker, are you and Miss Jackson close?"
Jeremy poured coffee for Kelly and handed it to her before explaining, "She's close with one of my younger relatives and visits often."
Kelly mused, 'Well, that's telling.'
'What, is 'my niece's girlfriend' too difficult for you to say?' Kelly saw through it but tactfully kept silent.
"By the way, Ms. Webb, how did you come to know Irene?" asked Jeremy.
Kelly said, "Miss Jackson is my client. I'm currently handling the case concerning her mother, Shelby."
"Ah, I see," Jeremy said.
Kelly opened her briefcase, retrieved a neatly stacked set of documents, and handed them to Jeremy.
"Mr. Tucker, I have finalized your will, and it has been successfully approved by the senior management at Goldee Legal Services.
"Mr. Tucker, once you sign the document and affix both your personal seal and the Tucker family crest, the agreement will be officially in effect..."
Jeremy picked up the document and scrutinized it with care.
Just as Kelly thought Jeremy would sign, he instead pulled out a lighter and set the documents ablaze right before her eyes.
The flickering firelight danced in his ice-cold, obsidian eyes.
Kelly shot to her feet, stunned. "Mr. Tucker, are you breaching our agreement?"
Jeremy stood unshakable, holding the burning documents. In a flat tone, he declared, "This will is hereby null and void."
"I invited you here today, Ms. Webb, because I need you to draft a new will for me."
Realizing this wasn't a deal cancellation, Kelly quickly composed herself.
It had barely been a month since Jeremy last consulted her about drafting his will.
Kelly wondered, 'Everything was fine—why would Mr. Tucker suddenly want to amend his will?'
What kind of client hadn't Kelly dealt with?
Knowing her professional boundaries, she made a complete 180-degree turn in attitude. With a composed, professional smile, she said, "It's my honor to provide dedicated service to you, Mr. Tucker."
Meanwhile, Aiden escorted Irene to a private lounge upstairs to wait.
There was still no sign of Jeremy, and Irene was bored out of her mind. So she simply curled up on the couch for a quick nap.
She actually fell asleep.
Perhaps it was the unfamiliar surroundings, but Irene slept fitfully, the traumatic memories of her past life experience replaying relentlessly in her nightmares.
When Jeremy arrived, Irene was trapped in the throes of a nightmare, unable to break free.
Noticing the fine beads of cold sweat forming on Irene's forehead, Jeremy assumed she was overheated. He glanced up at the thermostat to check the air conditioning.
The thermostat was set to 77 Fahrenheit degree—it shouldn't be making her sweat like this.
Just as Jeremy was about to lower the temperature, he suddenly heard Irene's desperate sleep-muttering. "Dorian, don't kill Noah…"
In her nightmare, Irene screamed, "Noah!"
Jeremy looked down in astonishment at Irene on the sofa, watching her lips move unconsciously as fragmented whispers escaped them.
He leaned in and heard Irene mutter in agony, "Cut out my heart... to save your lover... Dorian... may you die a horrible death!"
Jeremy jerked upright, staring at Irene with an inscrutable expression for a long moment before stepping out soundlessly.
