Jeremy said, "Take me home."
Jeremy was in poor health. After being out for most of the day, he was starting to feel the strain. Exhausted, he slumped against the car seat, massaging his temples.
Ever since switching to the aroma blend from Irene, Jeremy had been getting five hours of sleep each night—a vast improvement from before.
Whether it was just his imagination or not, even his appetite seemed to be picking up these past few days.
"Aiden, did the aromatherapy blend Irene sent come with a formula?" Jeremy asked.
"It did," Aiden replied.
Jeremy hummed in response. "Take a photo of the formula and send it to Darnell. Have him prepare several batches for me according to the prescription.
"I'll keep it in the car, just in case."
Aiden was thrilled. "Is the aromatherapy really that effective?"
"Not bad," Jeremy replied.
Without thinking, Aiden said, "Then we should thank Miss Jackson. The aromatherapy she sent works wonders."
Jeremy was instantly annoyed at the mention of Irene's name.
"Focus on driving," he snapped.
Aiden immediately went silent and concentrated on the road.
Irene hopped in the cab and immediately started ranting to Valerie on WhatsApp about Jeremy's outrageous moves today.
Irene: [That jerk! No wonder he's been so quiet—he was cooking up something wild. He actually dragged me to an AIDS lecture!]
Irene: [Get this: a massive conference hall, and it was just the two of us! So basically, Professor Lambert was giving a private lecture just for me.]
Irene: [I figured that asshole Jeremy might be tough to deal with, but I never thought his tricks would be this bizarre...]
Irene: [Total generation gap—no way to predict what this weirdo will pull next.]
Irene spammed Valerie with over a dozen messages ranting about Jeremy, but Valerie left her on read.
In fact, ever since Valerie left Eldraeth City, she'd been completely radio silent on WhatsApp.
Just then, Irene's phone buzzed.
Dorian texted her. [Are you off work? Want me to come pick you up?]
Only then did Irene remember—they'd made plans to try on the new arrivals at the brand store tonight.
She quickly replied to Dorian, then turned to the driver and said, "Could you take a different route and drop me off at Barnes Tower instead?"
Upon arriving at Barnes Tower, Irene texted Dorian. [I'm here.]
Moments later, a sleek black Maybach emerged from the garage.
The driver walked over and opened the rear door for her. "Miss Jackson, please."
"Thanks." Irene slid into the backseat.
Dorian closed the file in his hands and thoughtfully unscrewed a bottle of mineral water, handing it to Irene.
He asked, "Weren't you at the office this afternoon?"
Irene shook her head. "No, I had to meet a client, and then I just came from the CDC."
Dorian asked, "What were you doing at the CDC?"
"Just attended a lecture," Irene replied. She knew her meeting with Jeremy would eventually reach Dorian's ears.
She figured it was better to tell him herself than wait for him to hear it from someone else and come demanding explanations.
Just as she expected, Dorian let it go.
Irene took a sip of water, twisted the cap back on, then heard Dorian say, "I heard Shelby is being sued in court by 21 artists from her own agency. Is that true?"
Irene didn't deny it. "Yeah, that's about right."
"Did you instigate this?" Dorian probed, testing Irene's resolve.
Irene didn't hide it and admitted calmly, "Yes. Shelby was never kind or merciful to me—sending her to prison is exactly what she deserves."
"Besides," she added pointedly, "I'm just making sure justice is served. It's not like I'm framing her."
Irene looked at Dorian and asked, "Do you think I'm being too heartless?"
Dorian replied calmly, "Cut the Gordian knot when necessary, or chaos will follow. Sending Shelby to prison eliminates her troublemaking tendencies once and for all. You made the right call."
In truth, Dorian truly admired Irene's decisiveness. If Irene were his employee or a junior member of his family, he'd be delighted to see someone with such resolve.
But Irene was the flawless heart donor Dorian had handpicked for Amaris.
