"What exactly did they say about me?" Ruby snapped, her aristocratic temper flaring as she gripped Irene's right arm tightly. "Spit it out—now!"
Irene winced in pain, a strained sound escaping her lips.
Hearing the commotion, Austin, Noah, and Dorian all turned around simultaneously.
"Irene!" Seeing Irene's face contort in pain, Austin and Noah both rushed to her side.
Austin chopped down on Ruby's hand. "Let go!"
Ruby cried out in pain and instinctively flung Irene's hand away.
Noah shielded Irene behind him like a lion protecting its cub, his eyes blazing as he confronted Ruby. "Miss Barnes, what have you done to Irene?"
Feeling utterly wronged, Ruby shot back, "What did I even do to her?"
Her bright eyes blazing, Ruby confronted Irene, "Irene, what exactly did I ever do to you? Why are you putting on this act?
"Don't play innocent with me! Uncle Dorian might fall for your act, but I won't!
"Cut the act! We're both women here!"
"Ruby!" Dorian snapped, fixing her with a cold, hard stare. "Mind your manners! Is this how the Barnes family raised you?"
Ruby's face twisted with indignant fury, her crimson lips bitten tight as she glared daggers at Irene.
Ruby glared at Irene as if she were a wicked enchantress straight out of a dark legend.
Irene shook her head slightly at Dorian and said gently, "Dorian, you've got it wrong. Ruby didn't do anything to me, and she didn't mean it either."
Irene said, but her left hand kept gently massaging her right forearm.
Noticing her subtle movement, Noah reached out and rolled up Irene's right sleeve.
The moment Noah saw the five vivid red fingerprints on Irene's right arm, his face darkened instantly—shock and fury flashing across his features.
He snapped, "Mr. Barnes, Irene isn't even married into your family yet, and you're already putting her in her place?"
Dorian looked equally astonished.
Dorian walked over to examine the marks on Irene's arm. Seeing the distinct finger-shaped bruises, he shot Ruby a cold, scathing look. "Ruby, what the hell were you thinking?"
Ruby stared at the finger marks on Irene's right arm, completely stunned.
Ruby wondered to herself, 'Did I really use that much force just now?'
"You..." Ruby eyed Irene skeptically. "What kind of skin do you have? I barely squeezed your arm just now—how did it turn so red?"
Ruby glared at Irene and demanded, "Are you trying to frame me on purpose, Irene?"
"See! She straight-up admitted to squeezing Irene's arm!" Noah pounced on Ruby's words.
Noah demanded furiously, "What the hell were you thinking, squeezing Irene for no reason?"
"I..." Ruby opened her mouth to explain, but the words died on her lips—she realized she didn't have a leg to stand on.
It was Ruby who started it, sneering that Irene was just arm candy. Only then did Irene respond with those deliberately vague remarks.
Ruby was drowning in frustration—there was no way to prove her innocence now.
"Ruby, why would you think I'm trying to frame you?" Irene said, sounding wronged. "We've never had any problems—what reason would I have to do that?"
Ruby thought angrily, 'Who the hell knows why Irene is trying to set me up!'
Belatedly realizing she'd been set up by Irene, Ruby couldn't help but give her a sarcastic thumbs-up. "Irene, you really know how to play your cards!"
"What a scheming bitch!" Ruby spat, whirling around to storm off.
'So clever all his life, and Uncle Dorian ends up with a scheming bitch like her. Serves him right!'
Irene hung her head, fighting back tears of injustice.
Seeing Irene wronged, Dorian felt a pang of guilt.
Dorian walked over and reassuringly took Irene's hand, speaking softly, "Irene, does it still hurt? Ruby really crossed the line this time. I'll make sure her mother sets her straight.
"She's the only girl in our family, spoiled rotten by everyone. You'll soon be her aunt—as family, don't take her tantrums to heart.
