A blue Rolls-Royce Phantom glided up to the gates of the Barnes family estate, coming to a smooth stop right next to Noah's hulking black Jeep.
With the two cars parked side by side, Noah's Jeep looked downright shabby in comparison.
Noah flushed with embarrassment and muttered to Austin, "Did he park right next to us on purpose or what?"
Austin remained silent.
He looked at the Rolls-Royce Phantom, a flicker of surprise in his eyes.
He had only met Jeremy two or three times, but it was obvious the man wasn't the showy, flamboyant type.
The Tucker family was wealthy, and Jeremy owned an impressive collection of luxury cars.
Yet the vehicle Jeremy drove most often was a white Land Rover.
'Why's he making such a show today?' Austin wondered.
Dorian personally went over to open the car door for Jeremy. "Uncle Jeremy, you're here," he said respectfully.
"Mm." Jeremy adjusted his glasses before gracefully stepping out of the car.
Jeremy had poor circulation and was prone to cold. Even in the lingering chill of early April, he stayed bundled up.
He wore a sapphire blue shirt today, the top two buttons undone to reveal a thin black mock-neck undershirt.
His undone collar revealed his strikingly prominent Adam's apple.
His outfit perfectly balanced his usual stern and aloof demeanor, adding just the right touch of approachability.
His outfit was perfectly suited for today's occasion.
But then...
Dorian turned his gaze toward Irene.
What a coincidence—Jeremy's shirt was the exact same shade of sapphire blue as Irene's dress.
To any uninformed onlookers, they might have mistaken the two of them for the couple of the day.
Dorian shook his head, shaking off the ridiculous notion.
Aiden stepped up just in time, draping a long black suit jacket over Jeremy's shoulders before circling around to the trunk to retrieve something.
Mike strolled over with a cigar clenched between his teeth, playing the concerned elder brother. Flashing a practiced smile, he greeted Jeremy, "Jeremy, long time no see! You've lost so much weight."
Mike put on a concerned face and said, "Even with your busy schedule, you should still take care of your health."
Dorian's brows drew together in a faint frown at his father's words.
Irene sneered inwardly, utterly disgusted by Mike's behavior.
Irene thought, 'Who doesn't know Jeremy is terminally ill and doesn't have much time left?'
The moment they met, Mike said those things—'What a heartless bastard!' Irene thought. 'Some people really are beyond redemption.'
Ignoring Mike, Jeremy turned slightly to watch as Aiden carried the boxes and reminded him with quiet care, "Mind you don't drop anything."
Aiden reassured him, "Don't worry, Mr. Tucker. I'll be careful."
Mike looked a bit surprised when he saw Jeremy's driver approaching with two gift boxes.
He took the cigar from his mouth and, with a hint of false courtesy, greeted Jeremy. "Jeremy, you really didn't have to. Just showing up is enough—what's with the gifts?"
Jeremy finally deigned to look at Mike.
But Jeremy's eyes brimmed with mockery and disbelief as he sneered, "What delusions are you entertaining now?"
Mike frowned, a familiar dread creeping in.
With a mocking smirk, Jeremy tore into Mike. "What the hell do you think the relationship is between our families? Are you really that clueless?
"Have I lost my fucking mind? Bring gifts to the Barnes family?
Jeremy sneered, "During the war, didn't Barnes family steal enough from the Tucker family?
"What's this? Finally run through all the loot your family stole from us? So broke that you can't even put food on the table, and now you're eyeing the gifts I brought for Irene?"
Mike's face instantly darkened with rage.
Irene and her two cousins stood there, utterly gobsmacked.
Irene couldn't help but think, 'Damn, is Jeremy always this savage with his words?'
Off to the side, Lily and Dorian stood frozen, their faces mirroring the same look of utter disbelief—'What the hell just happened?'
Who would have thought Jeremy would publicly humiliate Mike so ruthlessly on such a day?
And he wasn't done yet.
Jeremy looked up at the mansion ahead and sneered, "If you're really on the verge of bankruptcy, you could always sell off your cars and your house. And if that's still not enough, why not even sell your blood?
"If you still can't plug that debt hole, I might mercifully hook you up with a reputable madam—maybe she could get you a job as a gigolo.
