The day of the accident, the doctor gave me a 70% survival rate. But Chase Holloway made his choice—he turned down treatment. Just like that, he left me behind, cold and heartless, along with the child I carried inside me.
As they wheeled me into the operating room, his words slithered into my ear like a death sentence.
"I'm sorry, . She needs this heart more than you do."
That's when it hit me—the insurance document I'd signed wasn't for coverage. It was an organ donation form. The accident wasn't fate. It was a setup.
Chase had planned it all, just so he could give Grace Thompson a new heart. His Grace. His so-called "one true love."
Standing over me, scalpel in hand, he delivered the cruelest words in the gentlest voice. ", it won't hurt for long. I promise."
That day, he carved my heart out of my chest and handed it to Grace. She lived. I died.
When I opened my eyes again, the memory of his betrayal stabbed through me like a blade. I gasped, my fingers clawing at the hollow ache where my heart should've been.
Chase stood in front of me, pale, his face twisted with guilt and something desperate. He reached for me, his voice shaking. ", it's okay. Everything is okay now."
I shoved him back. "Don't touch me!"
The white coat he used to wear was gone, replaced by a pristine white suit. Around us, a wedding venue glittered—crystal chandeliers, extravagant flowers, the murmurs of guests watching the drama unfold.
And in the corner, Grace stood biting her lip, her eyes burning with hate.
That's when I realized—I was at my own wedding. To Chase.
He stepped forward, holding out a diamond ring with trembling hands. I tore off my veil and slapped him hard across the face. "With you? You think you're worthy of marrying me?"
After I stormed out, Chase's messages flooded in.
[, please, let's talk. I'll make this right. We can redo the wedding, any way you want.]
We'd gotten the marriage license before the ceremony because Chase insisted. "I want the whole world to know you're my bride."
Now, his words were as empty as his promises. I took a shaky breath, wiping away the tears before they could fall. Then, with one tap, I blocked his number.
I used to believe Chase adored me. He memorized everything—what I ate, what I wore, even the time I brushed my teeth. He kept notes, tracking my every move.
When I asked why, he'd taken my hand, kissed it, and smiled. "Because, , I can't live without you. I want to keep you close, always."
Now I knew better. Every moment of care was calculated. Every act of love was just another step in his sick game.
Tears threatened again, but before they could spill, rough fingers brushed them away. ", please don't cry. It's my fault. We don't have to go through with the wedding, okay?"
Chase pulled me into his arms, his chin resting on my shoulder like that could undo what he'd done. He thought I was upset about the wedding—how stupid could he be?
I turned to him, my voice ice-cold. "Chase, tell me the truth. Is there something you're hiding from me?"
Not even a flicker of guilt. His answer came smooth, rehearsed. ", you know how much I love you. I'd die for you."
Such a pretty lie. His lips said he loved me, but his heart had always belonged to Grace.
Then, a familiar ringtone shattered the silence.
