Dr. Ethan Lowell's eyes snapped to me, his brows shooting up while his mouth curled into a sneer.
"Oh? This is my private consultation room. You really think I'd have surveillance cameras here?"
His icy stare sent a shiver down my spine. I tugged nervously at Ryan Evans' sleeve.
Ryan shoved the curtain aside and stormed into the exam room, scanning every corner. "Sophia, where's the camera?"
I pointed to the spot where I swore I'd seen it—but the wall was blank.
Not a single trace.
Ethan let out a derisive chuckle. "What camera? Throwing around accusations without proof—don't you two have anything better to do?"
Rage burned in his eyes, but he couldn't stop us from walking out.
Without solid evidence, my word against his was worthless.
"You—just wait."
Ryan spat the words through gritted teeth before steering me out of the hospital.
We'd rushed in unprepared, and now we'd lost the advantage.
Ryan wasn't giving up, though. He took time off work, combing through every online forum, grilling Ethan's colleagues, even tailing his patients—anything to expose him.
But Ethan's reputation was bulletproof. Everyone raved about him, leaving no weak spots to exploit.
Watching Ryan spiral—skipping meals, losing sleep—twisted my heart. Finally, I begged, "Maybe we should let it go. My photos haven't leaked, after all."
His eyes were bloodshot with frustration, his helplessness gnawing at him.
"I'm sorry. I failed you."
I pulled him close, cradling his head against me, running my fingers through his hair like soothing a wounded child.
"It's okay. You've done more than enough."
We dropped it—but the anger festered inside me, a thorn I couldn't pluck out.
Then, a month later, everything changed.
