He mentioned that a woman had suddenly appeared around his friend in their photography circle.
At first, she played the part perfectly—sweet, attentive, and genuinely passionate about photography. With so much in common, his friend fell for her quickly, and they started dating.
But then, things took a dark turn. His friend's marriage began crumbling, and before long, his wife died in a tragic accident while out shooting photos.
Heartbroken and vulnerable, he was easy prey. The woman swooped in, married him, and then vanished—along with a hefty chunk of his money.
"The woman with you... she looks familiar. I think it's the same one."
John went completely still. His head dropped, lost in thought.
A sharp knock at the door interrupted the silence. Two officers stepped inside.
"We've got reason to believe the victim was bitten by a non-native venomous snake. This is being treated as a homicide. If you remember anything—anything at all—call us immediately."
John gave a stiff nod.
Without another word, he grabbed his things and headed for the door.
"Where are you going?" Lucy called after him, confused.
"To do what I should've done a long time ago." He didn't look back.
My spirit followed him home.
There, I watched him break down, running his hands over every corner we'd shared. Finally, he stopped at my vanity—where he knew my diary lay hidden.
He flipped it open with trembling fingers.
"August 2022 — John proposed today. I've never seen him look more handsome than when he got down on one knee."
"January 2023 — It's official! We're married. Love you, husband. Hahaha!"
"June 2023 — Mom keeps asking about grandkids. I want that too, but John never brings it up. How do I even bring this up? Ugh, so embarrassing."
