"Let me through! Who dares stop me?"
The ballroom froze. I moved instinctively—Jason's hand tightened around mine.
"Let him in."
Richard looked wrecked. Paper-white skin, a bandage above his brow, his suit crumpled like he'd fought his way here.
"Wendy." His voice cracked. "You're scared, aren't you? Jason's blackmailing you. We love each other—you'd never choose him!"
"He's leveraging his power to—"
"Enough." The word cracked like a whip.
Richard flinched. Jason squeezed my hand.
From the altar, I met his steady gaze and nodded. Then I turned to Richard.
His face was pure devastation.
"Wendy… you don't want me anymore?"
My stare could've iced the champagne.
Realization dawned. "The divorce papers… you sent them?"
"Yes, Mr. Montgomery. We're divorced."
He crumpled to his knees.
"I didn't mean it." His hands reached for me. "Please—"
I stepped back. Twice.
"We're done. I'm Jason's wife now. Go upstairs—your mistress must be lonely."
A brittle laugh. "The great Montgomery CEO, making a scene? Careful, tomorrow's tabloids will feast on this."
He staggered. Finally noticing the sea of staring guests. His tie was crooked, his dignity in tatters.
"This can't be…"
As he turned to flee, Jason moved.
"Wait."
He shielded me, voice low and lethal. "You crashed my wedding. Terrorized my bride."
"This punch is long overdue."
His fist connected with Richard's jaw.
The gossip columns exploded by nightfall.
Everyone mocked Richard—the clueless ex who didn't even know he'd been divorced. The whole city buzzed: Jason Song didn't care about remarriage rumors. He wanted the former Mrs. Montgomery, full stop.
And Richard? He'd chosen to self-destruct in public.
Served him right.
I pushed into the bedroom, medical kit in hand.
"Ow—wife, my hand's ruined!"
The whining cut off as I entered.
Setting the kit down, I approached the bed. "Let me see."
My fingers went to his shirt buttons.
"W-Wife!" Jason flushed scarlet, scrambling backward.
I sighed and sat.
Nice try.
I'd seen the punch—swift, precise, targeting pressure points. He'd been fine earlier.
Now suddenly his hand "hurt."
"Wife." He clutched my sleeve, eyes wide. "You won't leave me, right?"
Watching the award-winning actor turn puppy-dog was almost funny.
"No."
His grip tightened. "You promised." Red-rimmed eyes searched mine. "There's only you."
I held his gaze. "I know."
I wasn't naive.
Love has a look. And being bathed in that kind of devotion daily? Impossible to miss.
This time, I was the one who hesitated. "Jason… I might never love you the way you love me."
My voice softened. "I don't know if I can give my whole heart again."
After everything, I wasn't sure that kind of trust still existed in me.
But this much was true: sincerity deserves honesty.
"Still… I want to try." I met his eyes. "Will you let me?"
Light ignited in his expression. He yanked me into a crushing embrace.
My nose stung. I patted his back.
"Take care of me, okay?"
