It was all my fault. If I'd just had the guts to stand up to him sooner, none of this would've happened...
Luna wouldn't be lying there, broken.
I turned away, but her screams still clawed at my ears from inside that room.
Then something snapped in me. Jaw clenched, I fumbled for my phone and punched in 911.
The sound of my voice tipped Vincent off.
He dropped Luna mid-scream and came barreling toward me like a bull seeing red.
"So this is how you thank me?" he spat, wrenching the phone from my grip. "I gave you shelter when you passed out, showed you mercy—and you repay me with betrayal?"
Too late. The cops already had the address, and his little outburst just made my story sound more convincing.
Realizing he was cornered, Vincent went feral. His hands locked around my throat like steel cables.
I thrashed, nails raking his arms, but he might as well have been made of stone. His breath hit my face—hot, sour, furious—as his fingers crushed tighter.
This was it.
Then—movement. Luna, bloody but blazing, launched herself onto his back. Her weight yanked him sideways just enough for me to suck in a burning gasp of air.
Still wheezing, I staggered up and threw myself into the fight. Together, we were no match for his strength, but we bought just enough time—
Sirens.
Cops swarmed in, and Vincent's reign of terror ended with the click of handcuffs.
Our statements led them straight to the evidence—dozens of undeleted videos on his phone. A deeper search uncovered his twisted collection on the computer.
Turns out, Luna and I weren't his first victims.
Just the first who lived to talk about it.
