The day before my wedding, my world shattered. A video surfaced online—me, bound and brutalized by faceless criminals, my humiliation broadcast for the world to witness.
That same night, my fiancé abandoned me.
By morning, he was married to Marie Benson.
As I drowned in despair, his younger brother, Emeric Jacob, knelt before me, a diamond ring glinting in his hand—far grander than the one Marie wore. His gaze burned with something I couldn't place.
"Flora Beaufils," he murmured, voice thick with emotion, "I've loved you in silence for years. Now, fate has given me this chance. Will you marry me?"
Broken and numb, I let him slide the ring onto my finger.
Six months later, I arrived at an upscale club to retrieve a drunken Emeric. But outside his private room, I froze at the sound of his voice—and the confession that followed.
"Boss," his bodyguard muttered, "six months ago, you had me kidnap your sister-in-law, destroy her, and leak that footage. But seeing how devoted she is to you now… did we go too far?"
A heavy silence. Then Emeric's exhausted sigh.
"For Marie to marry into this family without obstacles, it had to be done—no matter the cost. If I can't stand beside her in this life, I'll clear her path instead."
The bodyguard hesitated. "But your sister-in-law… what she endured—"
"I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to her," Emeric cut in, voice sharp. "Enough. Drop it."
Another pause. Then, quieter:
"Boss… the hospital just sent her medical report. The damage from the kidnapping… she can't conceive. If treatment fails, she might lose her uterus entirely."
A sharp crack—a slap, then the shatter of glass.
"Whether it was worth it," Emeric hissed, "is not your concern. One more word, and you'll regret it."
My legs gave out. I barely stifled a sob, hands clamped over my mouth.
The man who'd pulled me from the wreckage… had orchestrated the crash.
I fled like a ghost, my phone buzzing relentlessly—Emeric, Emeric, Emeric—his name now a brand of betrayal.
At midnight, the front door opened. His presence, once comforting, now sent ice through my veins.
"Flora," he murmured, voice honeyed with concern. "You never came to the club. Your phone was off. Were you… thinking about the past again?"
When I didn't answer, his tone softened further.
"It's alright. We have forever. I'll chase away every shadow haunting you—with love."
Hours ago, those words would have melted me. Now, they coiled around my throat like a noose.
"Emeric," I whispered, voice trembling. "I saw the doctor today. They said… we'll never have children. You once told me nothing would make you happier than a family."
His body went rigid. In his eyes, just for a second—a flicker of devastation.
