The room was dead silent with no response.
His mind was chaotic, his head splitting with pain as he rushed outside and grabbed a passing servant: "Where's Mrs. Sterling hiding?"
"If you hide even one word, I won't let you off!"
"Ma'am left with the child last night!" the servant said trembling: "She also burned all the gifts she gave you and those love letters."
"Burned everything?" Harrison staggered back two steps, his voice hoarse: "She loves me like her life—she couldn't bear to burn my gifts or give up being Mrs. Sterling!"
"I know—this woman must've run to her mother's old house, waiting for me to pick her up!"
Harrison calmed down, gritting his teeth: "Hmph, Whitney Collins, don't think you can manipulate me like this!"
"Let's see how long you can hold out without coming home!"
He was 100% confident.
In two hours max, Whitney would come crawling back to apologize and make up with gifts!
But Harrison waited at the banquet hall until dark with still no sign of Whitney, growing irritated.
This woman had gotten bolder since having the kid—daring to leave him hanging this long?
When she came back, he'd have to set some rules!
"Harrison, hurry up and bring back my daughter-in-law and precious grandson!"
Mother Sterling's face was stern: "All the guests are waiting for them. Are you trying to humiliate our Sterling family?"
Everyone suddenly came forward to persuade him.
Harrison snapped impatiently: "Fine, fine, fine, got it. I'll go get them!"
With that, he left quickly.
Just then, the banquet hall doors opened as a panicked assistant ran in.
"What happened? Where's Whitney?" Harrison barked.
"Boss, Mrs. Sterling sold her mother's house too—nobody's there!"
Harrison's head buzzed as he staggered back two steps.
Whitney had treasured that house more than her life since childhood, living there with her mother.
Now she'd actually sold it!
She was completely cutting ties with Boston, planning never to return?
"You ungrateful son, what did you DO to drive away my daughter-in-law?"
Mother Sterling beat him with her cane, furious: "Whitney just finished her recovery, her body's so weak, and you fought with her?"
"How could I give birth to such an ungrateful son?"
"Go find her RIGHT NOW!"
"Mom, don't panic. Whitney's just mad I asked for divorce last night—she's throwing a tantrum and hiding!"
"She loves that kid so much, she'd never do anything stupid!"
"Someone put out city-wide missing person notices—bring her back to me!"
"Sir, all of Mrs. Sterling's identification and records have been wiped clean—no travel records anywhere!"
"Sir, I found someone with information about Mrs. Sterling!"
The assistant brought over an old man, running excitedly.
Harrison's pupils contracted as he grabbed the old man's sleeve, his voice hoarse: "Where did you see my wife? WHERE IS SHE?"
The old man held up something in his shaking hand, stammering: "I... I was night fishing at Riverside at midnight last night and found these things under a rock, signed by Whitney Collins."
