After that day, Xavier came to Whitney's bakery every day.
Gradually they talked about everything, growing closer and more intimate.
The next day, Xavier invited Whitney to watch a basketball game.
After the game ended, she ran up to give the man water, and he covered her eyes: "Got a surprise for you—come with me."
She was led up stairs for a long time, then heard his deep voice: "Okay, you can look now."
Whitney opened her eyes to see countless butterflies dancing, lighting up the entire sky.
She reached out to catch a little creature landing on her fingertip: "Xavier, where'd you get so many butterflies in this cold winter?"
"My butterfly breeding facility." Xavier bent down to support her shoulders, emphasizing: "Built specially for you—I've been cultivating them for fourteen years."
"That long?" Whitney was amazed.
"Yeah, from the moment I first saw you, I had people start breeding them for you."
Xavier's gaze burned into her: "Whitney, that first glimpse is forever etched in my heart. You've lived in my heart for fourteen years—so deeply rooted you've become part of my flesh and blood. I can never pull you out."
"Give me a chance to take care of you, okay?"
Whitney was almost melted by his intense gaze, lowering her head: "I'm not ready to start a new relationship yet. Can you give me some time?"
"Of course—no matter how long, I'll wait." Xavier said.
After that confession, Xavier visited Whitney three times a day.
Soon, Whitney discovered Xavier wasn't just good with kids—he was also a business whiz.
After his packaging and renovation, Whitney's bakery business boomed. In just six months, it built a reputation and became a well-known local bakery with two branches.
She was counting money till her hands cramped, grinning: "Xavier, you're amazing—you turned my bakery profitable. I want to give you a thank-you gift. What do you want?"
"I want you to come with me to our high school reunion the day after tomorrow." Xavier's gentle eyes were filled with undisguised affection: "Will you?"
"Sure!" Whitney said.
The next day, they flew back to the States.
At the reunion dinner, Whitney appeared arm-in-arm with Xavier and immediately became the center of attention.
Everyone crowded around them chattering:
"Dr. Shaw, did you find a replacement for your first love? She looks a lot like Whitney Collins."
"Her name's Dawn Collins." Xavier smiled: "Tonight's dinner is on me—eat and drink well, everyone!"
This made the atmosphere even more lively:
"Poor Dr. Shaw had a crush on Whitney for fourteen years but never got to confess before his beloved died. Now he can only find a replacement to ease his lovesick heart!"
"That fight he had with Harrison over Whitney was legendary. Harrison got suspended, he was forced to transfer. Years of waiting came to nothing—makes you wanna cry!"
"Dr. Shaw released butterflies for Whitney for three whole years—so devoted and romantic. I totally shipped them back then, but Harrison stole her away!"
"Dawn, Xavier's a rich, good-looking guy from a political family—you'll be set for life with him!"
Whitney smiled slightly in response.
During dinner, she went to the bathroom and ran into Harrison in the hallway!
