Soon it was Whitney's birthday. Early in the morning, she received a barrage of calls from Vera, which she blocked directly.
Then Vera showed up at her residence with a pile of gifts, begging to see her.
She refused everything.
That evening, Whitney went to a birthday party with Xavier and was stopped by Vera at the venue entrance.
The woman looked frantic: "Whitney Collins, that dream Harrison mentioned should be real, because I was right there when he was unconscious after brain surgery!"
"I personally heard him talking nonsense and calling your name!"
"Will you please attend the birthday party he's throwing for you?"
"Give him a chance to start over!"
"No." Whitney didn't want to deal with her, her expression indifferent: "I don't believe in such ridiculous things, and I won't get back together with him. Move—you're in my way!"
Vera begged desperately as she said her son had been running a high fever for days and was very sick. If Whitney didn't go to the party tonight...
"That's your own business—nothing to do with me." Whitney's voice was icy: "You should've thought about today when you were scheming to steal my place."
"I regret it, Whitney!" Vera cried with snot and tears streaming: "I had a hysterectomy and can't have more children. Marcus is my only child. He has a heart condition and can't handle stress!"
Xavier waved his hand, and countless bodyguards dragged Vera away.
The woman screamed desperately: "Whitney, if something happens to my son, I won't let your son off easy—just you wait!"
Whitney was startled by the threat, but the man squeezed her hand tightly: "She's a rat everyone's beating now—can't cause any real trouble. Don't worry."
Whitney suppressed her unease and nodded.
During the party, Harrison kept calling her.
She didn't answer.
"Whitney, Harrison's been waiting for you downstairs for hours. Should you go down for a minute?" Xavier approached: "I heard he went a whole week without sleep to prepare your birthday gift."
"I don't want his stupid gifts." Whitney's voice was calm: "Let's go cut the cake."
After the party, Whitney took a car home.
Seeing Harrison still standing by the car with some device behind him, she frowned impatiently: "Are you EVER gonna quit? I don't want your birthday gift!"
"Whit, this gift is related to your mother—you'll definitely love it!" Harrison handed her glasses: "Put these on and see."
"Whitney, this birthday gift is really amazing—try it." Xavier agreed.
Whitney couldn't resist their persuasion and put on the glasses, then was stunned.
The person in the video was unmistakably her mother!
She still looked gentle and beautiful as in life, wearing a lily-patterned dress, raising her arms: "Whitney, come here—Mommy wants a hug."
She unconsciously walked over and rested her head on her mother's shoulder, clearly feeling her mom's warm body and the lily fragrance on her clothes.
Whitney greedily absorbed the scent, lost in the moment, until the person she was hugging gradually became a void shadow.
"Whit, this is an AI experience project I made. Do you like this gift?"
Harrison stared into her eyes, asking carefully: "If you think your mother's voice or expressions aren't realistic enough anywhere, I can modify them."
Whitney snapped back to reality, wiping away her tears: "It's good. How much did this project cost? I'll transfer the money to you."
"Whit!" Harrison looked at her with pained eyes: "I came to give you a gift, not discuss business with you!"
"We've known each other for over ten years—are you really gonna be this cold with me, hurt me like this?"
Whitney looked up at him, her eyes showing no emotion: "Mr. Sterling and I have no feelings to discuss—only business. Is 500K enough?"
"If the price is right, we'll sign a contract now and I'll take the equipment tonight."
Harrison was shaking with rage, clutching his chest as he collapsed.
In his last conscious moment, he gripped Whitney's sleeve desperately, tears sliding down his cheeks: "Whit, I'll wait for you to change your mind and come back to me, even if I have to wait until I'm old and gray!"
