I thought Sean was the one.
I fought my family, my friends, everyone, to marry him.
My parents were even launching a billion-dollar jewelry line named "True Love" on our wedding day to celebrate.
But a week before we were supposed to walk down the aisle, he told me he had to marry his ex, Raina, first. It was her mother's dying wish.
"It's for her family. A real man makes these kinds of sacrifices," he snapped.
"If you care more about the money than doing the right thing, then go marry someone else!"
So I did.
I called my brother. "The wedding is still on. We're just swapping out the groom."
I waited an hour outside Sean Jones's office building before he finally showed up.
As soon as he pulled up to the curb, he tossed a necklace into my lap.
"This is from Raina Hawthorn," he said. "You need to apologize to her for humiliating her at her mother's funeral yesterday."
It was a cheap knockoff. I'd seen the real one in his online shopping cart a few days ago.
"I don't want it," I said flatly.
His eyes narrowed. "You stormed into a funeral and screamed that I wasn't her fiancé. She's being the bigger person here, and you're going to be ungrateful?"
The man who used to protect me from everything was gone. Now, Raina was all that mattered.
He rolled down his window, fuming. When I didn't immediately start begging for his forgiveness, he finally caved. "Fine. Let's just get to your dress fitting."
It was the first time he'd given in on anything all year.
At the bridal salon, the consultant was beaming.
"Mr. Jones, Ms. Elleston! Your twenty custom gowns and suits are ready for fitting."
Sean was glued to his phone, his face tight with tension.
When he caught me staring, he shoved it in his pocket like a guilty teenager.
"Cassia, something's come up with Raina. I have to go. Just pick out a suit for me, will you? I trust your taste."
And just like that, he was gone, leaving me standing alone in a sea of white silk.
"Ms. Elleston, shall we select the suit?" the consultant asked gently.
I nodded.
I'd choose one. Just not for Sean.
After all, the groom had changed.
I pulled out my phone and dialed my brother. "The wedding is still on. We're just swapping out the groom."
