"You invited Caleb? Absolutely not! I forbid it!"
He grabbed my arm, his eyes wild.
"I've warned you about him! He wants you! If you invite him, the wedding is off!"
He'd always hated Caleb. Early in our relationship, he'd thrown a fit over a few playful texts between us.
I'd cut Caleb off completely just to keep the peace.
But now... Caleb wants me?
As I opened my mouth to reply, Raina stumbled dramatically, slumping against Sean.
"Sean, you're hurting me..." she whimpered.
Their fingers were laced together.
Sean coughed but didn't let go.
Raina gave me a sickeningly sweet smile.
"We're just practicing our vows, Cassia. Don't mind us." Her smile vanished.
"I won't tell anyone that you hired thugs to beat me up, or that you desecrated my mother's grave. But please—don't test Sean's love for me."
I turned to leave.
"Since you're so eager to bring it up—I'll hire those thugs for real this time."
SMACK!
Sean slapped me.
"You vicious bitch!" He roared, his chest heaving.
Vicious?
He believed her lies over the five years we'd been together.
Raina threw herself between us.
"Please! Don't fight! I'll give Sean back after the wedding, I promise!"
She dropped to her knees dramatically. "Just spare him! Spare everyone I love!"
Sean caught her by the waist, snarling at me, "Stop acting like a spoiled rich brat, Cassia!"
"You know I hate that! If you want this marriage to happen, you'll behave!"
He banned me from being anywhere near them until the wedding.
The next day, he called me, raging. "You dug up Mrs. Hawthorn’s grave?! You're a monster!"
I had my assistant look into it. The truth was stunning:
Mrs. Hawthorn wasn't dead. She was alive and well.
No wonder Raina could "desecrate" her grave.
It was empty.
I texted Sean:
"Raina's mom isn't dead. I've sent you the proof."
Whether he read it or not wasn't my problem anymore.
Caleb booked our flights.
Sean found me packing.
Half my clothes were trashed, the other half already shipped to California.
"Why are you packing now?" He asked, suspicious.
