"I'm moving," I said simply.
He nodded, completely missing the point.
"Right. Your company is in California, we are moving there after the wedding."
He suddenly glared at me.
"And you're going to apologize to Mrs. Hawthorn at our ceremony. Don't embarrass me."
He left to go get his ID, so he could get his marriage license with Raina.
He didn't come back that night. Instead, Raina texted me a photo of him fast asleep next to her, wearing matching pajamas.
My heart twisted, but I just silenced my phone.
All night, the texts kept coming. Raina sending me videos of them together.
At dawn, a message from Caleb arrived. "The bloom awaits its keeper."
Attached was a photo of two red marriage certificates.
And next to them, a pot of crimson peonies, in full, vibrant bloom.
He'd kept the flower I gave him years ago.
A warmth spread through my chest.
"On my way," I replied.
Sean came back just as I was packing my laptop. "I'm going to stay with Raina. She needs help with her wedding prep. Don't be late to our ceremony."
He rambled on with excuses
It's just to help. Don't make a scene.
"I won't be there," I said softly.
Last night had killed the last tiny spark of love I had for him.
Sean's face went pale. For a second, a flicker of panic crossed his eyes.
But then his phone chimed with a text from Raina, and he relaxed.
Cassia loves me. What could possibly go wrong?
He left without a backward glance. I made a phone call.
That evening, a helicopter landed in the city center.
"Your charter to California, Ms. Elleston," the pilot said.
I handed him an envelope.
"Please deliver this to Sean's wedding tomorrow. It's a gift from me."
At the exact time my ceremony was supposed to start, I texted Sean: "Congratulations!"
At his own wedding, Sean was anxiously scanning the entrance.
"Where's Cassia?" He demanded of his secretary.
"She promised she'd be here to apologize to Mrs. Hawthorn today!"
The secretary was staring at his phone, a frown on his face.
"Mr. Jones... it seems she's busy with her own wedding."
Sean froze.
The ballroom was a sea of champagne roses, Raina's favorite.
Guests sipped wine and laughed.
It was a perfect wedding.
Except the groom was drenched in sweat, gaping at a news alert on his phone: [Elleston Heiress Marries in Surprise Ceremony as "True Love" Jewelry Collection Debuts].
He frantically dialed my number. No answer.
"Impossible!"
