                    "GET A DOCTOR!" I screamed.
Security pinned the attacker. It was Raina's "dead" mother.
Sean gaped at her. "You're... alive?!"
Mrs. Hawthorn reached for him, but he recoiled. "You lied to me!"
"It was for you and Raina!" she cried. "I was just trying to fix what she ruined!"
Sean slapped her.
"My happiness was with Cassia! And you destroyed it!"
He lunged for her throat.
The police arrived timely and dragged them apart.
Mrs. Hawthorn was arrested for fraud and assault. Sean was detained.
At the hospital, I placed Caleb's pot of peonies by his bed.
"I'm so sorry," I whispered.
I remembered all the times I'd flaunted my "love" for Sean right in front of him, mocking his stoic silence.
How much that must have hurt.
I made a vow to the flowers. "Caleb Elowen is my only husband. For life."
When I woke up, Caleb was watching me. "I heard you, Mrs. Elleston," he said, his voice soft. "You're my one and only."
I smiled. "So do you."
Caleb recovered quickly.
My mother booked us a "belated honeymoon" on a private island.
Sean found me on the beach.
"I've changed, Cassia. Leave Caleb. Choose me."
I stared at him, aghast. "I'm married. Back off."
Suddenly, Raina leaped out of the trees and slapped me.
"I'm pregnant! Stop trying to steal my husband!"
She shrieked for all the tourists to hear. "Homewrecker! She has no shame!"
A nearby vendor started scolding me. "He's a taken man! Have some decency!"
I turned to Sean. "This is your love? You're just going to let her slander me like this?"
He looked away.
Caleb pulled me behind him.
"Folks, get this: this man was my wife's fiancé, but he stole her dowry to marry his ex, then had the audacity to hold a wedding! Is that even human behavior?"
"Now he's broke and crawling back to leech off my wife. She wants nothing to do with him, yet he's still trying to guilt-trip her!"
The crowd finally connected the dots. Someone recognized Sean: "That’s the scumbag who humiliated the Elleston heiress at her launch!"
"Ditched a billionaire for his ex, then tried to divorce-and-remarry his way back in!"
"He wants to have his cake and eat it too!"
"Wants it all—typical gold-digger!"
Realizing they’d been manipulated, the crowd scattered, cursing: "Disgusting."
I sagged against Caleb’s shoulder: "Thank god you’re here."
He pulled me close, voice smug: "I waited years to make you my wife. Did you think I’d let vultures near you?"
"Could a wife ask for more?" I sighed.
Watching us, Sean lunged at Raina.
"This is all your fault!" He shoved her hard, sending her staggering.
Raina was sobbing.
"We're married! We're having a baby! Choose us!"
Sean kicked her away. "Marry you? You're a poor, lying nobody. You're not even fit to shine Cassia's shoes!"
Raina shrieked.
"But you bailed me out of jail! You love me!"
"Only so you could try to seduce Caleb and break them up!" Sean sneered.
"I never loved you. I only put up with you because you look a little like her!"
Raina collapsed, howling.
Sean's eyes pleaded with me.
All I felt was disgust.
