"Daniel, back off. What's the damn hurry? You'll get your turn later."
"Goddammit, I told you to grab another girl on the way. Now you're cutting in? Beat it."
Vanessa and the others were screaming in my earpiece, pushing me to make a move.
"Evelyn, take charge. Pull that hottie in too. This opportunity won't come knocking twice."
"Evelyn, don't tell me you're getting cold feet. All bark and no bite. I bet you've never laid a finger on another man besides your husband."
Who the hell did they think they were talking to? I rose, crooking my finger and drawing out my words like honey.
"Daniel… come here."
Daniel Evans kept his head down, lingering at the tent entrance, his face burning red all the way to his neck.
"Uncle, we gotta move. The truck's wedged in those rocks. If the oil leaks, we're screwed. We either straighten it out or lighten the load."
Their rig was hauling over ten tons of rapeseed oil. No way those two could unload it alone.
But if that shipment got damaged? They'd be ruined.
Hank MacMillan hesitated, his belt half-undone before he cursed and buckled it back up.
"Goddammit, Daniel, guard the truck. I'll go find some drivers up ahead to help yank it free."
If Daniel hadn't just started working this route with Hank, he wouldn't have had to go himself—nobody else would take orders from him.
The second Hank left, Daniel bolted like I was some kind of nightmare.
No way was I letting my catch slip away. I called after him.
"Daniel, come here."
He stood rigid in front of me, shifting his weight, hands twitching like he didn't know what to do with them.
"Ma'am, what do you need? I should watch the cargo. Someone might take it."
Was this guy serious? No man could resist a woman like me.
The howl of wolves cut through the air. Without thinking, I threw myself into his arms.
