The next second, the two men lunged at each other.
"Stay the hell away from my girlfriend!"
Jasper fought like a man possessed. My stomach twisted—what if he went too far? That worthless excuse of a man wasn't worth the consequences.
"Enough! Stop it!" I wedged myself between them, pressing a hand against Jasper's chest.
"Please don't. I couldn't stand it if you got hurt."
His fingers closed gently around mine. "Relax. I've got this."
Only then did I exhale. Across from us, Theo staggered back, cradling his jaw, his eyes wide with disbelief.
"Zara, you—" His voice cracked. "How could you move on so fast? How could you just—love someone else?"
I snapped.
"What do you want from me, Theo? Haven't you done enough damage?" My laugh was bitter. "You're the one who screwed around. You're the one crawling back now. But this? It's pathetic."
"We're divorced. If I want to be with someone, that's my choice. Since when do you get a say?" I stepped closer, my voice dropping to a razor's edge. "Funny how the guy who cheated before the ink dried thinks he can judge me."
Theo looked like I'd gutted him. "You're lying. This is some twisted game—"
Done talking, I grabbed Jasper's collar and kissed him hard. "Convinced now?"
Theo made a sound like a wounded animal. He sank to his knees, hands clawing at his hair. "Why?" His sob ripped through the air. "After everything—how can you just throw us away?"
I stared down at him, ice in my veins. "Finished with the performance?"
"Get out. Right now. Theo, you're nothing but a stain on my past."
The irony burned—how could the man I'd once loved become this pitiful?
He kept showing up after that, begging, until I finally snarled, "One more word, and I'll marry him tomorrow." That shut him up.
So the next day, I did.
At our wedding, Theo crumpled to the floor like a puppet with cut strings. As he watched me walk away—happy, radiant, finally free—it hit him: he'd lost me for good.
He slunk back to the States soon after.
Years passed with no word.
Then he found out the truth. About the pregnancy.
That's when he truly shattered.
Not long after, they found him with a rope around his neck.
By then, I was already turning the page to my next ###Chapter.
