Mira smirked in Theo's embrace. After nine long years, the title of Mrs. Arden would finally be hers. Theo had never truly let her slip away.
When Mira left the hospital, Theo marched into their home and snapped at the maid, "Pack up all of Zara's belongings and move them to the backyard. And tell her she's forbidden from bothering me or Mira ever again." His eyes scanned the room. "Where is she? Get her down here now!"
The maid wiped her hands on her apron, looking startled. "Sir... Madam hasn't returned home in a week."
Theo stiffened. A week? That was the day of the surgery. Where the hell had she disappeared to?
"Theo," Mira said with puppy-dog eyes, "it seems Zara still resents me. Should I go make things right with her?"
"Don't waste your energy on her," Theo dismissed, stroking Mira's hair. "Just focus on recovering."
But as another week passed with no sign of me, Theo grew restless. On impulse, he dialed my number.
"The number you have reached is no longer in service." The robotic voice sent a chill down his spine.
Like a man haunted, he wandered into my study. There, our wedding portrait stared back at him - an oil painting I'd started the day after our wedding. He knew I'd add brushstrokes whenever I felt anything strongly. Now the paint had clearly dried long ago.
A sudden rage gripped him. He grabbed a nearby brush and raised it toward the canvas.
"What are you doing?" Mira's wounded voice cut through the air from the doorway. "Are you... missing her? What about me?"
Theo immediately dropped the brush and pulled her close. "Don't be ridiculous. You and our boys, Zayn and Zane, are everything to me." He called the twins in from the hall for a family embrace.
His phone shattered the moment. "President Arden!" his assistant's panicked voice crackled through. "Emergency - check your company email now!"
Theo's blood ran cold when he opened the message. A divorce notice - blasted to every employee - with crystal clear evidence of his affair with Mira: photos, videos, the works.
Simultaneously, the scandal exploded across social media. While their relationship had been an open secret, this public exposure was nuclear. The Arden empire began crumbling immediately - stocks plummeted, deals evaporated.
The final blow came when the elite Beaufort circle, whose connections the Ardens had spent decades cultivating, publicly severed ties over the scandal. Theo's father had no choice but to fire him.
But the damage was irreversible.
"Goddammit!" Theo roared as his world burned.
