Matt stormed back into the store, tossing his black card at Taylor before turning to leave. Taylor scrambled after him, desperate to make him stay—but Matt wasn't listening anymore.
"Fiona isn't who you say she is," he snapped, voice tight. "Something happened to her. And it's my fault—I didn't notice anything was wrong for two whole days."
He didn't give her a chance to argue. "I can't stay. She's still missing, and I need to find her."
Taylor's face twisted with resentment as she watched him walk away, powerless to stop him.
Meanwhile, Matt's secretary was combing through security footage from their residential complex. The tapes showed Fiona leaving days ago—suitcase in hand.
When Matt got the video, his stomach dropped. Fiona had no family, no close friends. Her phone contacts were just him and a handful of coworkers. There was no one left to ask, no trail to follow.
He blew off a critical company meeting and raced to the police station, only to be told it was too soon to file a missing persons report.
Returning home, the apartment felt hollow. Fiona had burned everything—every trace of herself—to ashes.
Matt collapsed onto the couch, chain-smoking as memories crashed over him. Fiona picking up his suits. Organizing his files. Waiting with dinner kept warm. Small, ordinary moments that now gutted him.
Restless, he paced until he spotted the divorce agreement on the table. The asset division section was slashed out. Only three words remained:
"Leaving With Nothing."
The words burned. For the first time, Matt understood what he'd lost.
But it was too late. By then, I was already in another country.
As the plane touched down, I secured a place to stay. New identity. Fresh start.
The streets here were quiet, almost empty—yet for the first time in years, I felt peace.
I'd begged Matt to visit this place with me.
Year 1: "Too busy. The company's in a critical phase."
Year 2: "Can't miss the annual conference—CEO obligations."
Year 3: "Taylor's sick. I need to find her specialists."
Eventually, I stopped asking. Now, finally free, I could stay as long as I wanted.
After paying rent with my last funds, I cleaned the apartment and prepared to job hunt—until my phone buzzed with headlines from home.
I clicked one.
"O'Donnell Group vs. Harris Group: Contract Chaos After CEO's Sudden Reversal."
The articles detailed how the Harris CEO had backed out of promised deals—even freezing shares meant for Taylor.
Money talks, and Taylor had never been loyal. Comments sections exploded with speculation, especially after hospital photos of her and Matt surfaced.
"Rich CEOs never stay heartbroken long."
"Taylor was always after his money."
Some claimed Matt had fallen out of love. Others insisted Taylor's affection was just a calculated play.
But none of it mattered anymore.
The love was dead. And they'd never see me again.
