The moment they wheeled me into surgery for my "appendicitis," I knew something was off. Kevin himself walked me into the OR, his grip just a little too tight on my gurney.
As the anesthesia crept through my veins and the world started fading, I caught fragments of Kevin's hushed argument with the doctor:
"Two milliliters of concentrated sulfuric acid? For God's sake, Nores, this isn't just throat damage - you're signing her death warrant! If you want Valentina out of Damian's clutches, there are cleaner ways—"
"If she dies, she dies." Kevin's voice turned to ice. "I'll ship the body to Damian and take Tina halfway across the world. I swore I'd free her from that monster. Valeria being Tina's twin makes this the perfect solution."
The drugs fully hit then, but not before I felt my heart shatter. Every tender moment, every whispered promise - all just part of some sick long con. The man who'd caught me when I fell had only been clearing the path for Valentina.
Fine. If that's what he wanted, he'd get exactly that.
"One more thing," Kevin added. "Tina has a C-section scar. Replicate it on Valeria and make it look aged. Damian can't suspect a thing."
I heard the doctor's sharp intake of breath as sulfuric acid droplets escaped their container. "Jesus Christ, Kevin! She was your childhood friend! Three years ago when Valentina wanted Damian, you orchestrated Valeria's assault to break their engagement. And now you're—"
"Just do your fucking job!" Kevin snapped. "Or should I remind you who performed Valeria's emergency hysterectomy that night? Suddenly growing morals?"
The next thing I knew, Kevin was forcing my mouth open. The diluted acid hit like liquid fire - scorching my throat, searing down to my stomach in an agony so intense my body convulsed against the restraints. Tears and vomit mixed as I choked, my system desperately trying to reject the poison.
Kevin's arms locked around me. "What the hell? She's supposed to be under! Why is she in pain?"
The doctor looked sick. "Physiological response. Can't be stopped."
Maybe my suffering showed too plainly, because the doctor tried again. "The acid's already eating through her stomach lining. Operating now risks massive infection—"
"Enough!" Kevin barked, muscles taut. "Prep her for surgery. Now."
As the doctor turned away, something wet hit my cheek. Kevin's voice cracked. "Ria... I'm sorry. But this is what you owe Tina."
His thumb brushed blood from my lips with terrifying gentleness. "She was kidnapped at two years old. We barely got her back. I won't let Damian destroy her now." A shaky breath. "You... you lived the life she should've had."
The fire in my gut raged, but I felt nothing but icy numbness. That "accident" three years ago? No accident at all. Just Kevin's opening move in this twisted game.
Now history repeated itself. Kevin was burning me alive to save Valentina - again.
