Luna, normally the picture of composure, completely lost it. "What do you mean Dylan's missing?" Her voice shook as she turned on Ryan. "No wonder you've been acting so weird all day. You did something to him, didn't you? Where is he?"
Bella's eyes burned crimson as her palm cracked across my face. "After everything Dylan went through to come back, you'd dare hurt him?" she screamed. "I should've let you die earlier! Where is he? If he's dead, I'll die too!"
The metallic tang of blood filled my mouth. I let a few crimson drops fall from my lips. So Dylan ran away again. Figures he couldn't stand being near me. Maybe I should just give him what he wants.
Before I could speak, Violet - who once called me her salvation - pressed a dagger to my throat. "Where did you hide him?" she demanded.
Violet, one of my four targets, was a prodigy in traditional medicine. I'd saved her life when assassins came for her family's medical secrets. The scar on my left hand? That was from her biting me during one of her trauma-induced panic attacks.
I'd stayed by her side through the worst of it. Helped her rebuild. Together we fought through hell until she mastered her family's techniques and got her revenge.
The day she tearfully called me her brother, I'd cried too. She reminded me so much of my sister from...
Then Dylan showed up. Suddenly Violet wouldn't let me within ten feet of her, just because he didn't like me. When she heard Dylan jumped into the ocean? She lost her damn mind. Stabbed me with a thousand needles, torturing me for revenge. "He must've suffered because of you!" she'd screamed. "Now you'll suffer worse every single day!"
My silence now only made her angrier. The blade bit deeper, drawing a thin red line.
"Forgotten how persuasive I can be?" Violet's voice turned icy. One sharp blow to my temple, and everything went black.
I woke in Luna's basement, needles jutting from every pressure point - each one magnifying the pain as Violet went to work with her tools. Luna and Bella watched with pure hatred.
Agony ripped through me. I couldn't stop screaming.
Violet's slap cut through the pain. "This is nothing compared to what you put Dylan through!" she hissed. "Talk, or I'll make you relive every second of his suffering!"
I opened my eyes. Enough. I just wanted it over.
"Dylan's dead!" I screamed, tears streaming. "I chopped him into pieces! Kill me already! Take your revenge!"
Violet's face twisted in rage. "You think I won't?" she shrieked, dagger raised. "If he's gone, you're going with him!"
The blade plunged toward my chest. She expected me to fight. I didn't move.
The shock in her eyes as blood poured from the wound was almost funny. I smiled. Finally.
As darkness crept in, Dylan's voice cut through from the doorway: "Hey guys! Been looking everywhere for you."
