I must have been out cold for ages. When I came to, I was back in my own world, sprawled on an icy hospital bed. All those gruesome scars that used to map my body had vanished without a trace.
My sister's broken voice echoed in my memory from right before I left: "Ryan, hang in there. I'll save you no matter what it takes."
I'd leaned on my big sis my whole damn life. Not long after her wedding, I got hit with some mystery illness. Not wanting to drag her down, I took the system's deal and got shipped off to that other world to play the harem game.
And now I was back. But when I frantically searched for my sister, she was just... gone. The whole world felt hollow, like I was the last person left standing.
I totally lost it, screaming my lungs out - only to jolt awake back in Violet's hospital.
Violet had been dozing at my bedside and nearly jumped out of her skin. "Ryan? You're awake?"
Something inside me snapped. "Why?! Why am I still trapped here? I just want to go home! System! Get your ass out here and explain!" My voice cracked like a teenager's.
Violet recoiled like I'd grown a second head. "Jesus, Ryan - have you completely lost it?" Before I could react, she jammed a needle into my arm with some sketchy liquid. "Dylan warned us you'd gone off the deep end."
The drug hit me like a freight train. I could still think, still see, still hear - but my body might as well have been made of stone. As Violet wheeled me out into the hallway, cold dread pooled in my gut.
The whole crew was waiting. Dylan in his crisp white coat took the wheelchair with a smile that didn't reach his eyes. Luna's glare could've frozen hell over. "We thought you'd finally gotten your shit together. Turns out you're just batshit crazy."
Dylan gave the wheelchair a little pat. "Northwood Mental Hospital's got just the treatment for your condition. Death's too easy for you, Ryan. You're going to live with what you've done."
Eliana sighed like I was some disappointing puppy. "How could you be so selfish? If you die, I break my promise to Dylan. Get yourself fixed, then you're coming home with me."
Even Bella couldn't muster her usual fake sweetness. "Ryan... please. Just behave until after Dylan's wedding. Then you can do whatever."
Dylan wheeled me toward an ambulance, tossing over his shoulder: "Go on, ladies. Start those wedding prep. I'll take real good care of our boy here." The way he said it made my skin crawl.
The "mental hospital" was a waking nightmare - zombies in patient gowns shuffling through the halls. The drug kept me paralyzed as Dylan's goons dragged me down to some basement that reeked of copper and death. Walls lined with... were those human limbs? Jars of still-pulsing organs?
This wasn't any hospital. This was a goddamn human butcher shop.
Dylan's voice dripped with venom. "Disinfect him in the alcohol bath." When the burning liquid hit, I screamed loud enough to tear my throat raw.
The slap came out of nowhere. "Shut your mouth," Dylan hissed. "I hate dimension-hoppers like you screwing with people's lives."
